Detwiler's done for the night. Probably one of the best starts in his Pro career: 6 IP 3 H 0 R 0 ER 1 BB 5 K.

Why are we bringing Rauch in?  Not a save situation.

  Let's hope for more of that in the coming weeks.

Probably to stay sharp. Our closer doesn't get much work. Acta is managing with a 5 run lead

How bad are the Nats that the announcers are acknowledging the fans for the suffering they have put up with?

No, but I would let Luis see if he could build on the good inning.  First sign of trouble then bring Rauch in.

The way Bergey has been pitching, we have a shot tomorrow against Haren.

Gameday is cocking up, so I'm reduced to having the Phillies/Cards game on my hotel room TV and following the REAL game on this thread.  But even the sight of the printed name "Calome" made me shudder.

That stuff burns so much, I have had it done to me on a few occasions... not as fun as it looks.

we let Owings hang around for way too long, but finally broke out in the 6th!

Lannan and the pen combine for a shutout!

overall, solid night of Nationals baseball!

now the question is, can the Nationals build off of this solid win and take the series tomorrow?

or will they revert back to their woeful ways and get OWNED by Haren?

stay tuned...

this could be the start of some very good things. i know he's been struggling, but do you really expect a player like that to just fall on his face in class A? AA is a different story though...

I think they'll take the series... Game 1 was winnable, but we blew it.

Don't get me confused for an optimist, just sayin.

Haren owns us. I see a 3-1 loss or something similar.

Nats pitching yielded ZERO earned runs in two straight games. The Zona offense is just as awful. If the Nats had gone with this lineup on Tuesday, they would have won. Dropping Pena and Bernadina for Casto and Harris was addition by subtraction both offensively and defensively. It's a winnable series, but it may come down to who makes the most mistakes. I like this lineup (alternating LoDuca and Flores.) Flores needs to get back on track, but at least LoDuca has some decent at bats. Neither he or a slumping Flores hurts like having Wily Mo and Bernadina in the lineup. I kind of like the idea of the two sharing some time with Flores coming in on a double switch to be the defense in later innings to make sure he gets regular time, while LoDuca sees some consistent action (just not at 1B). LoDuca at least has a track record of success and could be dealt for something.
