5 innings is not a fare sample size at all. At least give Schroder a fair chance.  If after a couple more weeks he was still struggling them give him the boot.  You seriously would rather have Jesus Colome over Schroder?

I doubt that Colome has minor league options.  Even if he does, I think it's all about trading him; sending him down would make that harder.  Since Colome can throw it 95 mph, there might be a contender (AL team?) who wants someone who can do that.  Maybe they think they can fix his control problems.  The magic of physics means that a guy throwing 95 mph can get hit harder too.  I don't think they could trade Schroder to anyone, especially with such lousy AAA stats.

On the other hand, Colome is a Dominican Republican, so maybe he gets a lifetime exemption from having to perform well.

The Detroit Tigers come to mind. Colome for Granderson?

I think your right about him being Dominican.   :?

Who cares if Colome has options? It won't hurt my feelings if we lose him and another team claims him off waivers. No loss there.

If we're paying Colome over $1 million, we'd rather get another team to do that, or pay most of it.  So we need a trade to cover up our mistake.  That's the Stupid GM factor at work: how much we're paying someone determines what we do, rather than performance.  We will probably send down a better catcher to AAA later, to play Lo Duca or Estrada, just so Bowden doesn't have to admit he made a mistake.  But that's professional sports - stars emerge because GMs set their personal feelings aside, and put their best players on the field.  If we won't do that, Bowden has to go, or we'll keep LOSING.

Schroder hasn't gotten a fair shake.  He was a major contributor last year and it's appaling that the think tank won't just cut their losses (ie, colome).  Schroder is the third best reliever this team has.

save an option on who PA? Schroders is already used for this year

Has he been in the majors more than 20 days? If not, they can save his option. Too busy to  look today

I didn't know this. But does this mean 20 days total or during one call up? He was on the roster for 18 days beginning on opening day before being optioned. Then he was called back up and was again optioned after a 4 day stint. This last time he was only here for 3 days.

Had it backwards. If he is in the minors less than 20 days, it doesn't burn an option. But 1 trip to the majors burns it.

Got to stop doing too many things at once, as shown clearly by my insertion of extra "t's"

Not the most exciting moves in the world, but hopefully they shake this team a bit. That is all I can ask of it. Shake this team...like a crying baby out of a crib.

I dont understand the schroder demotion but I like the fact that we are going to give guys like manning and Sanches a shot. Chico's demotion was to be expected and I also don't like Langerhans that much, we will see about him (like everyone i would have like Escobar or Maxwell)

Scouting Reports on Sanches and Manning:

Brian Sanches- Sanches started his minor league career as a starter, but didn’t have enough quality pitches to last in that role. He’s got a good fastball that he generally keeps down in the zone - although that was a major problem last season with the Phillies - and needs to keep moving to be effective. That was his undoing in Philadelphia and he found out quickly that if you don’t have good location and movement on your fastball, major league hitters are going to hit it a long way. Sanches also has pretty good control and also relies heavily on that.

Charlie ManningArticle on Manning
His fastball tops out at about 85-86 but he has a very good slider and cutter.  What's crazy about that article I posted was that it was written just a mere 2 years ago. This quote was most interesting: "With his mental makeup, and uncanny knack to excel in any situation, the future looks nothing but bright for Charlie Manning and maybe one day he'll be known as the Yankees' 'Mr Everything'." I think we may have a gem here in Manning.  I hope he takes advantage of this call-up and makes a space for himself in our pen long-term like Rivera did a few years ago.

Yeah, it's part of the game. Guys with options give you the option of sending a guy down. They don't want to release Colome, they would rather trade him for something, even if they have to eat salary.
