Who cares if Colome has options? It won't hurt my feelings if we lose him and another team claims him off waivers. No loss there.
If we're paying Colome over $1 million, we'd rather get another team to do that, or pay most of it. So we need a trade to cover up our mistake. That's the
Stupid GM factor at work: how much we're paying someone determines what we do, rather than performance. We will probably send down a better catcher to AAA later, to play Lo Duca or Estrada, just so Bowden doesn't have to admit he made a mistake. But that's professional sports - stars emerge because GMs set their personal feelings aside, and put their
best players on the field. If we won't do that, Bowden has to go, or we'll keep LOSING.
