I've always wanted to go to the Freak Show bar there. Still need to.

Palace of wonders kicks ass. Best in the spring/summer/fall. The burlesque shows are a blast and they've had some pretty damn good magicians and snake dancers.

D.C. needs more of that kind of thing.  Too many damned martini bars and "late night shots" dens-of-douchery, not enough burlesque shows and snake dancers.

I've known a few people who have taken the shuttle but it is much easier to just get a cab or take the X2 or 90/92 if you want to go on the cheap. I usually just walk there as long as the weather is ok. Granted, I live on 5th & M ST NE.

Sketchy comes with any developing neighborhood. Granted the neighborhood has developed into a night time destination so it is actually less sketchy at night than during the day. It is a lot safer than it was a few years ago but it is a far cry from Reston Town Center.

Anybody been to Science Club or Piratz Tavern? I've been meaning to check them out.

I didn't like the way I worded the previous post, so I deleted it to rewrite. I went to Sticky Rice during the day, and I was ok parking my car there, but it's not that well lit, and I figured my stereo would be at risk in the dark.

There's a shuttle from Chinatown that I had mentioned but I don't know anyone who has taken it. Seems infrequent. If you can get a cab there at night, can't be that terrible.

I knew what you meant. No worries.

The people I know used to take the shuttle more when it left from Union Station; now that it leaves from Chinatown it is way too easy to take the X2.

So far, there haven't been any disappearing stereos I know of but I don't know a lot of people that drive to H ST either.

My brother had a friend whose stereo was stolen every single time he went to the old Black Cat, back in the day.

U St was bad back in the day. I knew tons of people who had stereos stolen. Granted nothing compared to the bullet holes in some of sketchier neighborhoods. Nothing screams "What was I thinking?" like coming back to the car and finding bullet holes.

Just look at the dc police crime map and see how frequently cars are broken into. Then divide that by the number of cars parked in the H St area. Your chances of leaving with your stereo are still probably pretty good

I couldn't think of a more appropriate place to post this.  WARNING - it's a rather large image

That looks like the sort of place I'd feel comfortable in.

I'm currently partial to Cameron's Seafood, many locations around the area.

I could go for a good hot bowl of crab soup right now.  Maybe a Backfin ale too.

  Great catch!  ( pun intended)

I actually couldn't find any pictures of the Rockville or Oxon Hill shops, which are my two main ones (not Maine ones) and so settled for a Bethesda one just to provide some color to the post.

Also, why does it say "Hot Gumbo Crab"?  Shouldn't it say "Hot Crab Gumbo"?

Tom, if you're ever in my neck of the woods at the right time, you should try Rube's Crab Shack, some of the best blue crab I've ever eaten.

Lobster talk is all on-topic; there's a reason Portland, ME makes kickass beer.
