I think so.

Robocop 2 is great too, but part 1 was also very good. Tha part in part one when they kill Peter had me shook for days. That was one of tha  most goriest scenes ever.

Not a big fan of Lord of tha Rings.

But as i mentioned in tha title, Terminator 2 is tha best sequel ever.

Do you agree??

It is amazing.  I have probably seen it 10+ times. There might be a sequel better but I can't think of it right now.  Terminator 1+2 are in my Top 25 movies ever made.

Of the Tim Burton variety, some say that Batman Returns was better than the original Batman.

In George Romero's "Dead Trilogy" some say "Dawn of the Dead" was better than "Night of the Living Dead."

But T2 truly was the crap.

I thought you just meant the "best sequel," not the best sequel that was also better than the original.

The best movie that is also a sequel is Godfather II.

Both were fantastic.  I am even a huge fan of the dreaded Alien 3.

I obviously love movies, but I have never seen ANY of the Star Wars OR Star Trek films. Just not interested in that type of movie. Well, I did see the first 10 minutes of one of the newer Star Wars, but fell asleep in the theater (not because the movie was bad, though). I heard that some people think that The Empire Strikes Back is better than the original.

Empire Strikes Back was terrific.  Also, Road Warrior, the sequel to Mad Max, was insanely good.

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention Star Wars.

Also, I like the Indiana Jones series too.

Empire Strikes Back was rejected by a lot of people but I thought it was great. Attack of the Clones was clearly better than Phantom Menace. Although Godfather II was a great movie you can't say it was better than the original. Saw II was decent

I'd agree with Godfather 2, and add Dr. No, The Return of the Thin Man and agree with Indiana Jones.

It may be due to my age relative to the films, but I've always considered Empire Strikes Back to be the best of ALL the Star Wars movies, original or prequel.  Return of the Jedi was very good also.  I have always found the original original Star Wars (later known as Episode IV: A New Hope) to be very slow-paced, cheesy, and boring.  Sure it has it's moments, but overall it is a dull film and the dialogue is awful even by Star Wars standards.

I'll revise later if I think of a better candidate, but in my opinion Terminator 2 is in fact the best unplanned sequel ever made.  You could make an argument for Lord of the Rings, but since those films were all planned and made together, it's difficult to argue them as "true" sequels rather than one really long movie that is broken up into parts for the sake of practicality.

Not to derail the thread, but one of my biggest beefs with more modern films is the complete reliance on CG.  What made older movies like Terminator 2 great is that CG, when used, was used in a way that enhanced the film, and couldn't be done in any other way because there was no basis in reality for what was being represented (obviously speaking of the T1000 here).  Anything that could be done through stunts or pyrotechnics, was!  In fact if you watch the director's commentary it really gives you a new appreciation for the film.  The helicopter flying under the overpass?  Real.  The semi crashing off of the road and into the canal?  Real.  The cyberdyne building exploding?  REAL!!!  (that building was scheduled for demolition anyway  )

You just don't see that quality or effort in films anymore, it's all computer generated, and it shows.

Godfather II is a hybrid, IMO, because it could be considered both a prequel and a sequel. :)

    :?

Now doesn't this just open up a big ol' can of worms?

By sequel, do we mean a movie released after the first one released of a series?  Or do we mean one that follows the story line chronologically?  I'm so confused.....

Yes, probably. :halo:

Both sequels and prequels are released after the original work. I wouldn't necessarily say that either is part of a series, unless there are more than two works involved. In a prequel, the events portrayed occur at an earlier time than in the original work. In Godfather II, the events portrayed occur both at an earlier and at a later time. Interestingly, I found a Wiki that dates general use of the term prequel to the release of Godfather II.

p.s. I still think that we need a head-scratching smiley. :)

You got the whole Star Wars thingy.

The first one, now called the NEW HOPE, was actually 4th in the series.

The Road Warrior
Evil Dead II (this one could start a holy war)
Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan (The first movie was awful)
After the Thin Man (After this, they go back down hill)
