Dmitri was interviewed by Buck Martinez at the event, and the interview was broadcast on XM 175 this morning. Very interesting, lasted about 15-20 minutes, from when Dmitri was first swinging a bat, all the way through his career to the BAT dinner. Did not avoid the unpleasantness of 2006, and he had nice words for Bowden's faith in him. He admitted that when the Bowden offer came (minor league deal, minor league camp) that it was the only offer of any kind he got.
Buck asked him about a game when he was with the Tigers, where he only needed a double for the cycle, and he hit the ball over the head of an outfielder. As he rounded first he saw the ball carom back over the head of the same outfielder who had come in too close to the wall. Young passed up the easy double and was able to leg out his second triple of the game, but lost out on his cycle bid. He said that is the playing moment he is most proud of, helping his team in a close game (by making it to third) as opposed to taking the easy base.
