Oh my bad. I got confused because my name isn't Right. In fact, it doesn't even start with the letter 'R'.

Fantastic news, Evolution!! Mazel tov! I wish you both all the best.

Re: proposals. Actually, Judy (my ex) proposed to me. She was going to school at Penn for her OT masters, and I was going to go to NY for Columbia. She told me over the phone that if I expected her to move to NY I would have to marry her....I answered Yes! And even though we ended up divorced, we had 28 years of marriage, many/most of them good years. And of course we got our son Shawn out of it....so no regrets!

Um, maybe we should let him make it legal before she meets his other "family", if you know what I mean.

My practice wife and I are still good friends, although we only got married once and got divorced twice.  The first divorce was in WV during my senior year of college.  We had the hearing in magistrates office and all was settled, or so we thought.  Then two years later I went to buy a house, and found that the paperwork was never walked across the hall to be filed.  It took along time to figure out the situation and its consequences.  It was determined that the first divorce wasn't effective and couldn't be made effective as neither of us any longer had venue in WV.  So, another three years later we got divorced again, this time in VA.  The VA judge said he never saw a couple get along as well, and then  my mother in law spoke up and said she didn't believe we should be divorced.  So, he recessed us for an hour to discuss if we really wanted a divorce.

MMMM K.  So, as I understand above.  You got married to your first wife.  Tried to divorce her in WV.  Somehow the papers never got filed.  Tried to divorce same first wife in VA.  Judge told you two to go talk because you got along so well.

So, did that divorce go thru after talking to her again?  Or are you still married to her and the divorce in VA never went through?  Are you now married to your first wife or your second wife?  You're beginning to sound like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton!   :? :panic:

He called her his "practice wife", so I think they're divorced.  Otherwise that'd be kinda weird :?

2K6 got it right - the second divorce went through after the recess.  Her new husband is a friend of mine from high school, and they are great for each other.  They have three very pretty little girls, who think I'm an old friend of both their parents.  We've gone on the theory that nothing you do in life before 25 counts (we were both 21 when we first attempted to get divorced), and the girls have no idea that their mother and I were once married.  We just received the Christmas card with the girls pictures.

Well we will be going to plenty of baseball games this coming season. There will be plenty of opportunity for everyone to meet her, and wish her all the luck she will need. It is a good thing she likes baseball or being with me might be next to hell during baseball season. I watched every game last year in some form. We would go out to dinner and I would keep whipping out my cell phone to check the scores. But now she is just as big a Nats fan as I am.

What a riot!!  A couple of those ideas are hilariously outdated.  But there's still a lot of good stuff to glean from that 50 year old advice piece.

What is NOT outdated iin that piece? It's condescending trash, and no wonder women burned bras, etc. "Remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours." Maked me glad I was only a kid in the 50's.
