Now this thread would've been pretty messed up had she said "no" :D

I was doing what Salty was doing hoping that that wasn't so.

Congrats, man

Let me rephrase that comment.

We gals usually don't say no to a wonderful sweet guy we love holding out a lovely diamond ring professing his complete and undying love and devotion for us and then asks us to marry him and be with him the rest of our lives.

There, how's that!

OH, nevermind then.  >:(

We have devalued words in our culture so that 'complete', 'undying', 'devotion' and 'the rest of our lives' all have modifiers. At the very least that sentence should have an 'until' attached to it and not in the 'until death do us apart' sense but in the 'until you get on my nerves or I get sick of you (or vice versa) or I find an upgrade.

LOL!!!  I got you flustered!  or Frustrated.  :D  Or as my dad says, Flustrated!  LOL!

Actually, we had Dan's dad sing "Til the End of Time" at our wedding.  It's a Steve Green song.  Friends of mine sang "I Promise You" by Bebe and Cece Wynan (sp).  And that's how we look at it.  The minute we allow the thought of divorce to enter our minds is not good and we do our best to make sure we don't do anything to cause that thought to crop up.  It's hard sometimes, but marriage isn't always a cakewalk.  It's a commitment even during the hard times.  And that's when the depth of the marriage develops and you become so happy you worked it out because you find yourself even more in love and committed to that person.

Thank you.  I know I look really young.  People think I'm barely 30 sometimes.  But I'm staring at my 39th b-day in March!  And Dan & I have been married for 11 years, I know that's not long compared to some of you.  But it wasn't just 2 years ago either.  We have been through some really hard times!  Both of us have lost a parent and then had to deal with the remaining parent's grief and resulting actions, we've gone through several financially tough times (esp. since I stay home w/ the kids!), we had to endure my severe depression after Juliana was born (which was also within that first year following my mom's death - so it was more than post-partum and was REALLY BAD!), then we had to get through Andrew's behaviorial issues and cancer.  It hasn't been a picnic for us, so I think I can speak with credibility on this one.

I for one wouldn't doubt your credibility, kimnat. That must have been a very difficult time for you after your mom died. That loss is hard enough to endure without adding post-partum depression into the mix.

p.s. You're a year and some change younger than my "baby" sister. :)

That's not always how it happens.  Actually, I honest to G*d don't remember proposing.  I have no recollection of it whatsoever.  Sally says I proposed one my parent's porch swing.  My recollection of how things came about is that Sally went to Kay Jewelers in Pentagon City Mall, bought herself a ring, and handed me a payment book.  This was just a few days before we made the final move to Florida.  We got married about three months later, on New Year's Eve, because she found a cruise that was leaving port on January 1.  Of course, she found the cruise only a week or so before it left.  Due to a lack of planning, the wedding was at one of those Las Vegas style chapels in Ft. Lauderdale.

And that, my dear, is why you need a Mrs. Right!  To put your head in the clouds and make you forget your thoughts of drudgery!
