Simply tragic!!  I'm at a loss for words.  He was showing some positive signs last night.  What happened this morning?

According to the Washington Post article, they never really stopped the bleeding. Other reports say he died of complications from surgery.

Such a tragedy.

This is sad.

The more this Sharpstein guy talks the more I cant help but think about why he is so willing and quick to give details.  Normally you dont hear anything unless it is from some sort of law enforcement.  Its is like he is pre-emtively going out of his way to say this was a burglary and this is what happened before people can speculate, perhaps correctly, something else.

Maybe it was a burglary gone bad, but it seems like it is a huge coincidence that it happened twice in one week with nothing stolen.  If it was a "hit", it doesnt seem like the easiest way to go about it.  Maybe it is poorly staged to look like a burglary.  If it was simple street thuggery, I would have expected more along the lines of a drive by, but I dont know much about the subject.  Cutting phone lines sounds exotic and organized crime-ish. I really wasnt thinking anything along these lines until Spidernat brought it up

I dont know how old the daughter is, but she slept through the whole thing? Were silencers involved?

damn this is freaked up.

i knew he had gotten shot, but I didn't find out he died until about 5 minutes ago when I showed up for work and my boss told me.

I might not be a Redskins fan, but I'm from the DC Area, so I still got some love for the athletes that represent the area.

condolences to the man's family.

*pours out some Nantucket for Sean Taylor, since I don't have any Liquor*

You know, I really don't care about talk about silencers etc.  This is NOT a movie on the screen.  This is a death of young man who still had a lot of life to live.

I think its Tragic that a man's life is snuffed out just when he was trying to get on the right path and raising his little 1 year old girl.

RIP Sean.   :'(

Who said anything about this being a movie plot?

with all respect, just an odd thought.

in the aftermath of this, I can't help but think that perhaps there just might be something to this "Elijah Dukes saying I need to get out of Florida to get my life together" stuff.

it seems like Florida is just an all-around bad place to be for athletes who are originally from there.

Yes, this is not a movie, but it is not just the death of a young man. There other people murdered each day, probably even more tragically. Being a pro football player doesnt make this any more serious or sad.  Because of the public nature and past history, I dont really feel like I should limit my thoughts on this just those of sorrow, or else we should have daily murder threads where we can all express our remorse.

I guess I try to budget my feelings of sorrow.

I agree that it is sad for someone to die so suddenly and so young, and to leave behind a young child.

I also think that, given what we have heard so far, and given that the release of information was rather limited early on, there is bound to be speculation about what happened. That's human nature, I think.

The Last Tunnel

It would be nice if Sean Taylor were voted into the 2007 Pro Bowl posthumously.  He was leading the NFC in interceptions, even though he missed the last two games with knee injuries.  The move to free safety in 2007 really took advantage of his abilities.

He will definitely be voted into the Pro Bowl. As of last night he was leading the voting for NFC safety.

This is a very touching picture, but it also gave me an idea. I wonder if NFL rules would allow the Skins to mark the 21 yard lines similarly.

I am so bothered by this. There is something about this incident that I cannot get a grip on. Some of the reports now say that the phone lines were not cut but that the phones were not working. I've heard reports that claim the girlfriend was hiding under the covers so she didn't see anything but other reports say she saw the whole incident (wasn't it dark?) and saw the people that did it. They have actually printed a picture of the girl in one of the Miami papers so if she did see it why would they put her at risk? Of course she could be under protection but that's still risky. Also, if they went in there to kill him why shoot him in the leg? Was there a physical confrontation so that the shooter was on the floor when he shot Taylor? If so, and his intentions were to kill him, why did he then flee and not stick around to put a few more rounds in him to make sure he accomplished his deed? In the heat of the moment he could not possibly know that he had inflicted sufficient damage. Maybe he panicked and left before getting caught. Some people may think that all he wanted to do was injure him to the point of ending his career but that doesn't seem likely. There has to be more to this than meets the eye. Hopefully everything will come to light.

I really don't know and at least right now, I DON'T WANT TO KNOW.  I just want to be able to mourn the loss of another young athlete.

There seems to be a lot to this that has yet to come out. Listening to Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer, this morning explain the details of what happened according to Taylor's girlfriend, Jackie Garcia, this doesn't seem like a burglary. Garcia said that Taylor got up and locked the bedroom door, while she and the child hid under the covers. The intruder(s) then kicked the bedroom door in.

I find Taylor's father's comments particularly interesting since he is a police chief. Most recently, he has said that he holds no grudge or sense of malice against the perpetrators.

And in the latest WaPost article, there are these comments from the father. (Given that he is a cop, there's just something about this that seems almost intentionally obtuse.)

Quote
Taylor's father said Garcia, his son's high school sweetheart, probably could not have identified anyone in the darkness, and he added that the intruder kicked in the bedroom door before firing.  "Maybe this is a case where someone got startled," Pedro Taylor said.

Pedro Taylor said his son likely had the machete not for self-defense, but because he enjoyed gardening and yardwork.

Pedro Taylor said he was not overly concerned about what authorities described as a burglary at his son's residence between 7 p.m. and midnight Nov. 17.

I don't know, but a) kicking down a locked bedroom door to shoot someone doesn't seem like a case of a startled burglar, b) I've never heard of someone with a green thumb keeping a knike in his/her bedroom for that purpose, and c) I would not expect a police officer to be so ambivalent about a burglary a week before where the house was ransacked and a kicthen knife was left on a bed.

This is really quite a story. I did not realize until I heard it on the radio this morning that Jackie Garcia was Andy Garcia's daughter.
