Cristian Guzman.
I almost put Rivera in the no-brainer category just because he seems to be available every time he is called upon, and because he has the longest string of batters faced without allowing a homer in the majors this year - 340-something now. He also doesn't get killed by lefties (.247 against right-handed hitters/.261 against left). But for some reason, I'm a little uneasy about him. Call him 90 percent in for next year.
btw, did you guys read this neat tid-bit about Saul in Barry's blog today:
I can hardly believe I'm saying this, but Jiminez deserves to be our opening day SS next year. Can Lopez.
Tip for Bowden on how to avoid such tense moments in future seasons: Assemble a better roster!
I noticed that Jiminez is a totally different player as a starter than he is as a backup.he's atrocious as a backup, but he is seemingly competent as a starter.
Yep. He is an absolute terrible pinch hitter (like 3 for 37 or something) but he does well when he starts. He hit .360 in AAA this season starting everyday and he has gotten on base in every start he has made up here. We really don't have a place for him though with Guzman, Belliard, and Lopez manning the middle infield positions especially considering Jimenez has no worth as a pinch hitter. It would be nice if we could trade him for something decent in return.
Keep him, pray to god that Guzman stays healthy and plays well, then trade Guzman and put Jiminez at SS. Seriously, next year is the final year of Guzman's disastrous 4-year contract, there's no way in hell I would sign him again.
