I hope nobody minds too much, but I told some Phillies fans at RFK on Saturday that we would knock the Mets out of the division lead, since they blew it in the playoffs last year.  Just love hearing the Mets "fans" booing their team as we pile on.

Can someone give me a reason why Belly should NOT be the starting 2B next yr?

Ronnie owns Felipe in every facet of the game besides speed.

I'd definitely say the spot is wide open come Spring.  Guzman is a lock at SS if he is healthy.  Maybe competition will finally inspire Felipe to wake up and play to his capabilities. If not then yes Belliard should start.

Age + current contract.  The two things Belliard can't control are the top two reasons Felipe will probably start next year.  Lopez is 26, Ronnie is 33.  Felipe has a lucrative deal right now, and is considered a building block for the franchise.  As much as Ronnie has outplayed Felipe, it's a very complicated choice.

by the way, wonderful game by the boys in gray blue red and gold. I wasn't a fan of this lineup at first, but they produced. Belly is a certified Nat killer. I truthfully think he's been the best all around hitter this yr. Nice job by CHUUUUUUUUUCH too. AK with the bomb. Mutt fans booing, gotta love it.  Gonna be more boos tomorrow when Ice-Berg makes the Mets ice cold!

Lucrative deal?  Felipe isn't even signed for next year.  Belliard is signed until 2010.

Yes, I agree Belliard has killed the Nats this year, and Chuch has done a great job tonight.

One possible reason would be if Belliard had an overdose of Bazooka chewing gum, resulting in a stroke.  He could also have a collision with Kearns in Shea Stadium (where Nick did), because this place is DAMNED.

But we have his rights, I think.

Yes but we can still opt to either not sign him or sign him to a 1 year deal.  I highly doubt they'll ink him to a long term contract like they did with Kearns, at least not until he starts playing well.

Lopez isn't worth a long-term deal. and honestly, Kearns wasn't either, but his deal isn't too bad anyway. and Kearns is decent until Burgess or Marrero is ready.

He says he'll be in shape for next year.
