My dad was on CSN today!!
« on: September 23, 2007, 09:11:42 pm »
Hey gang!  Check this out!  go to this link:

http://midatlantic.comcastsportsnet.com/

then go down on the right and click on this video link:

"Nationals: David Lee reports on the last baseball game at RFK--Part 1--9/23"

They really screwed up my dad's name which is really Larry Crosen and NOT Frank Corsen.  And that jersey?  I gave it to him for his birthday back last year, when he turned 60!  I searched high & low for that thing!!  Special ordered it (with Frank's ORIGINAL #) from the Philadelphia Athletic Association.  He freaked when he opened it up and I was jumping up and down 'cause I KNEW he would love it!

Hondo gave up #9 out of respect for Ted Williams when he became manager in 1969. He had respect for the hall of famer and didn't ask for anything in return as todays players are apt to do. IIRC Hondo chose #33 because as I think he said at the time that he would still be wearing #33 becasue 3x3=9. Hondo has always been one classy guy. It's a shame we can't have him as a coach or ST instructor or in some other capacity but he has loyalty to Steinbrenner in New York. The entire time he was with Zimmerman at 3rd base it looked like he was talking baseball and instructing Ryan in batting technique. It would of been nice to see a few more old Senators at the game like Ed Brinkman, Paul Casanova and Joe Coleman to name a few but it was a great day the Nats won and SHORT STILL STINKS!!!

SantaNat nailed it Calsgr8!  That's why I searched so hard and put "9" on Daddy's jersey.  My grandma used to make dr. appts. for Daddy in DC on baseball days, that way he could go to the game while out of school legitimately.  There were a couple of hookie notes she wrote for him though, esp. for double header days!  Was she cool or what!!  I still miss her.  She was the best Gran in the world!  But yeah, Salty, I "inherited" my FANATicism from my Daddy!  We were huge into the skins back in the late 70's and into the80's.  It was how I connected w/ him. That was our time together.   He used to take a day off of work in the summer and take me to carlisle for training camp.  I made a friend out of that time (besides my dad) and still keep in touch w/ the guy.  He used to be one of the Skins' PR guys, now he works on stats in the booth.  But he got us onto the track one time, helped me meet Gibbs, took us to lunch w/ the team, etc.  So sports has always been what's united me w/ my dad.  Even now, any conversation of length we have centers on the Nats!
