Yeah, but maybe you actually know something about this game.

Yeah I was sitting with MrMadison so I can attest to the fact that he naged about Hanrahan's lack of control leading to full counts. He even said Hanranhan wouldn't be able to go more than 5 innings and he didn't. Which is why MrMadison should also know that Hanrahan did not have a quality start.

But it was a good quality non-quality start.    :?

What's that supposed to mean?  Hanrahan couldn't even pitch 5 innings on Sunday.  He still lacked control for the most part and that is why he couldn't keep pitching.  I could care less if they let Joel go or sign him to a Minor League contract.  But until he learns control (might never) he will never be a Major League pitcher.

I think he's alluding to Erica's friendship with a couple of interesting people.

Hanrahan will be in AAA or the majors for the Nats next year (not sure about options) - but the talent is there - he just needs training. Offseason video sessions, instructional league, whatever it takes - the Nats will get it done. He sure has good stuff - it just needs to hit the strike zone.

He was a rookie this season so I believe we control him at the major league level for a few years and 3 or 4 of them will be option years.

On a related note, Svrluga clarifies the contract status of the whole bullpen on his blog today. That guy does serious homework.

He retired the first eight batters.  If he had a lot of full counts, the bright side is that he pitched pretty well under the pressure of a full count.

It means just that. Not walking people is a fundamental key to success, and given what he has done when he doesn't walk people, he is worth keeping in the system and see how he does with some more time. A lot of young power pitchers can take a while to really learn how to pitch in the majors, because they spend so many years being able to rely on the heat. I found the brief, straightforward analysis I was responding to be very rational and grounded in fundamental simplicity. A lot of time, clubs overthink this stuff and would give up on a guy like Joel. I found Erica's comment to run counter to that thinking and appreciated the simple logic.

This was a funny response.

Glad you found it entertaining. I was certainly being serious about appreciating the simple elegance of Erica's premise. In many ways, this game shares that simple elegance, and teams would do well to evaluate players accordingly.

I know you were serious but I thought the way you crafted the sentence was classic. I appreciate well put together sentences, that's all.

he can hit for a pitcher, which is an bonus and he has not been plegued with injuries...

yeah, and he didnt loose his cool on the mound. ive met him in person and chatted with him, he is a laid back kind of guy. so it doesnt suprise me that he is cool on the mound.

causes seriously, who we got? berggie and chico?

hill is gonna be out with sx and is solid when healthy, but im so afraid of the JP disease setting in.. *cough, cough...DL

im not about to give up on Jole just yet...

crap, Hanrahan's better than Colome or Ayala. At least Hanrahan has his moments.

That's not saying much. The truth is that none of those 3 are worth much of anything. Maybe Hanrahan has some Dominican ancestry and only he and Acta know about it.  :?

I question Manning more. He seems to come in and literally poop on the mound more often than not.

He's been totally dominating some tough lefties recently. That should be his job b/c he's damn good at it.

Manny just doesn't seem to understand the concept of using a situational lefty properly. Amazingly, he actually used Manning properly during the Reds series. If he had two guys like that in the pen, ditched Colome, didn't use Ayala for crucial situations, and brought up another solid arm for the pen, things would likely remarkably improve. One or two arms can transform a bullpen if the pen is used properly. I believe TB is an example.

Correct, Tampa Bay ditched Colome, who then came here.  Tampa Bay has the best W-L record in baseball now.  So if we ditch Colome, then...
