ChiSox: Are they for real?
« on: July 07, 2005, 07:56:12 pm »
I don't pay much attention to the AL, and especially to non AL-East divisions, but from looking at the numbers, it would seem that the Chicago Whitesox are virtually guaranteed to be in the postseason this year.  A few other people I've talked to seem to think they will fade.  What does everyone else think?

There pitching staff is doing an incredible job. Their top 4 starters are averaging a tiny spec under 7 innings per start. That's a lot of innings and keeps their bullpen rested. They are getting the hits, with 8 guys with 30 RBI or more in their lineup (3 with 45 or more). Yes, I would definitely say the White Sox are for real.

To answer your post's question:  YES.  The starting rotation of Buehrle, Garland, Garcia and Hernandez is the best rotation in baseball.  Hermanson has been the best reliever next to The Chief.

Chicago WS and the Nationals are mirror images of each other with the starting pitching and bullpen.  What the White Sox have that the Nats sorely lack is big production hitting.  The roster is deep with RBI machines that include Konerko, Dye, Thomas, and Everett.  The team always guys with good OBP and base stealing such as Podsednik, Rowand, and Iguchi.
