hee haw was one of my favorites. maybe you guys dont know that Roy Clark was a washingtonian.

Roy used to own that really nice house on the left hand side of Route 4, just south of 495, towards Upper Marlboro.  He and his band used to play area beer joints, including the volunteer fire company across the street from where I grew up (Co. 21, Oxon Hill).  One night, he and his band got in a big fisticuffs with another band, probably fueled by not only beer, but petty jealosies over music, women, whatever was handy.  This was probably around 1960 - 1962, and required the volunteers to get out the hoses to break up the brawl.

So what is so noteworthy about this minor footnote to history?  The other band was led by Jimmie Dean, who himself was on his way to fame and fortune as a musician, and sausage salesman.  Guess they were just creating stories to write country songs about.

That Logan and Mingo county of West Virginia is where the "Wild" in Wild and Wonderful came from.  When I was with KPMG, we weren't allowed to even drive through Mingo county, and that was the early 1980's.  I don't know if you saw the movie Matewan about the Matewan Massacre during the coal wars, but the feelings about guys in suits hasn't changed much since then.  According to the 2000 census, Matewan's median household income was still only $13,529 - less than a full-time minimum wage earner.  Because of the Hatfield & McCoys, & the Massacre, the entire city is now a National Historical Landmark.  The Army Corp put up a floodwall, decorated with engravings, that cost as much as 40+ years earnings for the entire city.  God Bless Senator Byrd.

Even today, each of those counties have a population of about 27,000.  Since your lineage goes back there, with the even smaller population, it has gotta be almost a certainty that you are related.

That's amazing that the animosity towards corporate America is sooo strong there that a company would prohibit their employees from going there!  That's funny!

Gran Crosen (nee Fletcher) wrote her "story" and state that she was born at Martin's Creek, VA near Rose Hill, VA (the furthest SW corner of the state).  Beautiful country!  I should go back and visit sometime, but takes like a whole day to drive there!  It sounds like that wild county in WV is close to all that.  Must certainly be part of my clan.

Ok now guys.  Make a note of this and never piss me off!!    My sister jokingly told me that we should get dna testing done to check this part out!

Tom. I think Roy eventually wound up playing in Jimmy Dean's band. They used to play at an arena off fourteenth st., I think Florida Ave. I think it was called Uline Arena

31st, like in 2 weeks??  That's also my Elisa's b-day (my middle kid)!  Bloomie's huh?  I'll stow that away in my memory banks.  ;)

I used to see Ice Capades, too, BUT at the DC Armory, not at the Uline Arena, definitely before my time!

I don't see your birthday on the WNFF calendar. You should edit your profile to include it.

sometimes old farts like me do not notice everything in a forum. like when Madison jumped on the Cards and wanted to make love to them. sometimes it is the meds. sometimes i wonder if these senior moments are not a pre alzheimers thing.

Cool!  Let me know.  We'll be at Friday night's game.  I was wondering when you were coming up!  And I'll already be out in Ashburn on Sun - my dad's birthday.

I'm not going to be there.  I had an MRI, and they found 4 tendon tears and a ruptured muscle.

I hope your dad has a happy birthday.

Oh my goodness!  That's awful!  How are you doing?  Are you in a lot of pain.  if you don't mind my probing, where's the problem located?  I guess the closes the book on a trip up here for a good while.  :(  But I'll see you when your able to come up after you're all better!  Take care of yourself!

I'm fine.  There isn't much as much pain as there is more frustration.  The both peroneal tendons in my right leg have a tear above and below the ankle, and the related muscle is the one that ruptured.  Those tendons normally route around the fibula, but I don't have a fibula in that leg.  My ankle is made out of my hip bone, and doesn't have ligaments left on the outside.  So, when if roll it, since there aren't any ligaments to limit things, it can go too far and tear the tendons, and that's what happened again.   I just had tears in those same tendons as well as an achilles tear repaired along with an entire ankle rebuilt yet again just under 2 years ago.  It had been doing really well.  Right now it's back in a cast, and we're waiting on a new plan since I don't have much more hip left for grafting and everything done on the ankle affects the knee (and hip, and back).

Oddly enough, I'll be playing better golf.  In golf, being a righty, a proper backswing would put weight an stress on the ankle, which would make mine roll, so I can't properly "load up" without wearing my braces (which I hate and virtually never wear - in fact I'm not sure if they're in a closet or the attic).  But, in a cast, I can take a better backswing and do a better job finding the fairways.  Hopefully that continues to hold true since I'm playing Wednesday and Friday.   I don't like to spend much time on the DL.  Or, as Sally tells me, at least not on the physically disabled.

Unless that's when the surgery is scheduled, since I can't drive, I'm hoping to fly up for at least part of the Reds series.

Goodness!  You've really had a time of it!  At least you've found an "upside" to the whole problem.  Better try the golf while you can!

Be sure to let us know when any surgeries will be happening or what the plan will be.  I'm so sorry you're having to go through all this.  It's sounds dreadful!

BTW, who's the cutie in your avatar?

That's Nasra, a child I sponsor through Christian Childrens' Fund.  She lives in the Phillipines and just turned 4 the other day.
