The Lerners care a lot more about paying a fired manager who's under contract than winning

Sucks for Hyde. Knew the Os we’re gonna be trash this year when they let burnes and Santander walk and replaced them with Morton and O’Neil. Meanwhile the Red Sox add crochet and the Yankees add fried. Hyde has nothing to do with the problem

I feel like Martinez and Hyde were both on hot seat entering this series. Game 1 was enough for O's. O's laid down early inning last night and Nats end up with series win and a chance at win, probably cooling things off for Martinez headed into a homestand.

I'm not certain Rizzo and Martinez are as maximally safe as they were in previous seasons. MASN coming unstuck, Nats now seriously looking for stadium and uniform sponsors, it feels like the Lerners may become a bit more invested in day to day. If Nats enter another hell stretch, they may shake Rizzo or Martinez's hand and tell them thanks for the Championship, now good luck going forward.

Martinez was never on the hot seat.

GMs fire their manager mid-season out of panic. Panic comes from expectations from ownership. Rizzo and Martinez have no such expectations from this ownership group.
