Couldn’t have happened to a better fanbase LOLMets
I remember taking the Daughter out to Shea in 2008, first time to see Nats/Mets. I had takem her to Shea when she was little, during the long road trip the expansion Senators began after 1971. The Mets won, as I kept blinking watching Cordero throw 80 mph fastballs. "Something is badly wrong", I told her. A flock, meaning many drunks shouting obscenities and throwing bits of ice at us.
Those are Met fans.
Much later, I always saw Bryce Harper patiently signing autograph after autograph for kids lined up clear back to the pavilion. Then the game started and the entire crowd began to curse Harper. Then about the sixth or seventh with the Mets ahead, Ryan Zimmerman would always homer and Met fans would howl at their team until the last out.
Those are Met fans. (I've never been to Philadelphia for a game)
