How on earth did the bullpen manage to throw 100 pitches in 4 innings?

With the MASN issue out of the way Mark has no excuse to hold this team hostage anymore. Sell it and let someone that actually cares take over. Its time.

I know Hickey doesn't like the "analytics stuff", but the pen walking 6 in 4 innings is inexcusable.
That was a bad thing before analytics.

His name is Mini Me, and his excuse is he needs higher comps before he can sell.  The $1.7 billion Oriole deal convinced him of that. There might be a 2-3 year window when everything aligns before Wood and Crews become Phillies, but Lerner Jr. has never had to be successful, and never been successful on his own, so this will continue.

The white Sox have a better record than the Nats.

Why is Poche on the team?
Poche at least has a track record of success. He was released primarily because he was too expensive for TB, not that he was bad. I'll blame Davey for letting him pitch to Bohm, a righty, with Salazar warm in the bullpen. My target is Sims, who also stunk. He has no such track record and just is a wild arm who throws hard.

The Good:
- Gore
- Ruiz
- Uniforms are much improved from last year
- Speed on the base paths (Crews, Garcia Jr. with SBs)
- The crowd

The Bad:
- Facing Wheeler
- Clutch hitting (2-11 with RISP)
- Abrams 0-5, 2Ks
- Bell 0-4, K
- DeJong 0-4 4Ks

The Ugly:
- Sims, Ferrer, Poche combined to allow 7R (6ER) in 2.2 with 3BBs and 5H.
- Salazar allowed both inherited runners to score

In fairness to Sally, Crews needs to make that catch. He gets out with no damage if Crews doesn't drop it.

Wheeler is a great pitcher and the time of the game and the Sun/shadows played a role. Some of the Phillies players noted that with Gore.  I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the scoring came after the shadows were gone even though the bullpens were weak.  Jordan Romano looked terrible.

As I said in the bullpen thread you can't overreact to one game, but I don't have a great feeling about either Bell or DeJong.

Missed the game cos of work, Gore looked phenomenal! Ruiz looked good too. Too bad the Lerners didn't want to sign any solid bullpen arms this past Winter  :icon_frown:

Did not like Abrams saying he was in 8th grade when the Nats came to DC.

Why didn't you like it? What did he say exactly?

Yes.  The sun/shade lines were extreme on such a clear day, they made both starters look better than they really were.  Mindfact.

October 2000, so he shouldn't have even started kindergarten until late in the 2005 season.

you swing and miss at the first pitch and the following one. The next pitch is far enough outside the strike zone for even you not to swing. What is your count?

Struck out on the third pitch outside the zone
