Well yea. It’s all about the money.  Other leagues do this also with different jerseys and such. The city connects must have generated more revenue and so they will come up with another version.

I know the EPL clubs do it because of the shirt/jersey collecting and trading culture in Europe, and elsewhere. Does the US have a similar shirt collecting culture - it doesn't appear to, from distance? It's surprizing how things can go  - I have shirts which I bought because I liked the design but which, over time, have now become collectables - and, ironically, almost too valuable to risk damaging by wearing. There are many, over here, who buy shirts just as collectable potential investments, never to be worn - in collecting circles 'BNWT' ('Brand New With Tags') is the ultimate, outside of the rarified air of game worn shirts.

UniWatch says the Nats are planning on wearing the City Connects on Opening Day. I’d be livid if that is the case - not a day for a gimmick jersey. Bad enough that they plan on wearing them every Friday AND Saturday home game before even gauging how much the fans like them.

Personally I like to see my favorite team wear their actual colors the majority of the time but I might just be old fashioned at this point in my life.

It's to distract you from the play on the field...

Agree on opening day. As for Friday and Saturday, they did the grey and cherry blossom ones on both days, I think. It's just with the blue and the red jerseys this year, along with the city connects, the "real" uniforms will be seldom seen.

Yep, that is my issue. When they released the original City Connects they said they’d be worn “during select home games throughout the year” and then moved them to Friday and Saturday after seeing how popular they were. I still didn’t particularly like that but I understood it due to the popularity. They should’ve taken the same wait and see approach here.

Now during their 20th anniversary season they’ll be wearing jerseys that didn’t exist for the time period they’re honoring and that most fans associate with the club for 35% of the time.

Stupid thing to care about so I’ll shut up now.

If they had the guts to do it, it would be the best selling jersey in team history

Hard to top perfection of the cherry blossoms

They don’t have to top that.  They can sell both.

easily could have been their road grays. I get not wanting to replace the blue and the red alts, especially with the residual good mojo from 2019 for the blues, and I get wanting to rotate through other designs, but I'd like them somehow in the rotation.

I can see the team explanation of the design: The dizzying sort of waves of the pinstripes is a trippy blend of baseball tradition and the roots of the hippy movement. The choice of a dark color rather than tie-dye is a nod to the oppression of the people.

You can count the good City Connects on one hand. I think the cherry blossoms make the cut for appearing on that hand but these jerseys don't.

As these jerseys are meant to reflect a connection of meaning, to the city of the team, then the Nats should feature a repro of the 'your fired' e-mail to all of those Federal employee DC residents... ;)

Are you sure the color isn't a nod to the poo on the streets of San Francisco?

I actually like the hats in game. The matching light blue trim on sleeves being a bit bigger and more noticeable would make the hat a solid B+. The jerseys are good.
