« on: July 31, 2024, 01:41:57 pm »
Washington Nationals vs Arizona Diamondbacks
Is It Still Chase Field?, 3:40 PM EDT

MacKenzie Gore: LHP, 105.2 IP, 6-8, 4.51 ERA / 3.39 FIP, .363 BABIP
Zac Gallen: RHP, 87.2 IP, 8-5, 3.70 ERA / 3.48 FIP, .300 BABIP

Nationals
1. CJ Abrams (SS)
2. Juan Yepez (1B)
3. James Wood (LF)
4. Harold Ramirez (DH)
5. Luis Garcia (2B)
6. Keibert Ruiz (C)
7. Alex Call (CF)
8. Travis Blankenhorn (RF)
9. Ildemaro Vargas (3B)

Diamondbacks
. Ketel Marte (2B)
2. Jake McCarthy (CF)
3. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (DH)
4. Eugenio Suarez (3B)
5. Randal Grichuk (LF)
6. Pavin Smith (1B)
7. Kevin Newman (SS)
8. Corbin Carroll (RF)
9. Jose Herrera (C)

Highlighting the BABIP because it explains a lot of the difference in results between these guys.

Young gets a day off, as does Lipscomb. Blankenhorn gets his season debut in right, with Call moving to CF, Vargas playing 3rd.

call is a pretty good defender and I think they want Wood to not shift around much. Just get used to left.

i wouldn't mind seeing Yepez lead off at some point with Abrams dropping back to #2 or 3.

Not a bad idea.  Remember Young was up there for awhile before he couldn't quite get on base enough.

well, on the bright side, McCarthy can't steal second or 3rd after his triple.

I don't figure on Young getting many days off, so I don't expect to see TB out in right too much.

Might be just getting him playing time?   Seems like a major defensive downgrade

Why does Wood run like he has a stick up his ass?

I've only got the gameday up but guessing it's his height

Do we still think Wood is too slow for the outfield?

I wonder how many times this year Carp has said that's the first time the Nats have scored since ....

Keibert continues to get playing time because of his contract.  Thanks Mini Me, Rizzo and Davey.

As many as Franny calls a strikeout a good swing that helped prevent a double play, or a failed attempt to get a baserunner to 2nd a good throw, or a fastball two feet out of the zone a good miss.

i expect him to DH and play some 1st. Not play against every righty, but a bit unless he's absolutely killing the baseball. With 4 righties among Young, Call, Yepez, and Ramirez, there should be 3-4 or so games a week for TB until Crews is up.
