After dominating the Dodgers and the Astros in his first two major league starts, is Mitchell Parker actually a good major league starter?  I say maybe (but I'm leaning yes after seeing his highlights from today's start).

Bonus points for adding comments re: his floor/ceiling that prove accurate before the end of the season.

Not sure his fastball continues to play as it is only average. Control is outstanding along with poise. Voted to ask me in 2 months.

He walked 61 in 124 innings last year in AA/AAA (95% being AA).  That being said, he looks really freaking good so far.

Worst case is he’s a modern loogy.  Mid case #4/5 starter.  Best case legit 3 starter

That curveball is one of the top 15 in baseball.  His fastball plays with the late rise like Doolitle

Some guys just have confidence, he reminds me of Brock Purdy in that way.  He could have had a 0.75 ERA in AAA and been a nervous wreck to face that Dodger lineup in LA for his first ever MLB start.

Yeah, as he pitches more there'll be better advance scouting against him, and he will have some bad starts, but that confidence will be tough to shake.  Also, he's a Nat.  We haven't had a pitching performance from a young starter like that in years.  Compared to our other starters:

-Josiah Gray last year went 7 innings four times, but gave up walks or HRs in each of those starts
-Parker's had 2 starts with 0 walks now,  Gray had 2 all last season, and in each of those games he gave up 2 HRs
-MacKenzie Gore had 2 starts with 0 walks last year, 1 was a start where was pulled in the 2nd due to injury, the other he went 6 and gave up a HR
-Jake Irvin has had 1 start his entire career with 0 walks, but he gave up 2 HRs in that effort

Its a good start. Will be interesting to see what happens when other teams get scouting on him.

it's funny, but if you go to Fangraphs home page and hover of the search for players box, the 4th name on the drop down is Parker, behind Lee, Ohtani, and Kjerstad. The combo of "who is this guy?" and who is hot lately.

He was the number one player in the search box for a little bit there.

Also kinda crazy how Rutledge probably gets the call up instead of Parker if he doesn't take a comebacker off his ankle.

Getting roughed up a little today but maybe he can become the Nats Ranger Suarez. I don’t think he was ever in the Phillies top prospects.  Came out of nowhere.

5.1, 6 hits, 5 Ks, 2 BBs, almost all that damage in the 2nd inning (walk, single, then 3 singles after 2 out). I'll take that most of the time. Nice way JBArnes picked him up.

Good article. This will be found gold if he continues to be an effective big league pitcher. It will affect what they need to do during next off-season.

Well, it's been almost 2 months, and Parker looks pretty good.

From the Post article:
"Parker, a rookie left-hander, allowed one run in six innings, trimming his ERA to 3.06 through 12 major league starts."

He also has 5 wins and a 1.08 WHIP.

of course, with his ERA, there's a huge asterisk with the game before this when he let up 4 unearned due to his fielding error. But the WHIP is fine, and how he's avoiding walks is kind of amazing given his minor league track.

They need to implement a coach-pitch system, with a designated fielder standing next to him.
