Input - New section remembering WNFFers
« Topic Start: January 18, 2024, 08:13:52 AM »
Hey everyone, I'm sure some of you have noticed the new "In memoriam" section.  I thought this would be a nice way to honor WNFFers who are no longer with us while also allowing respectful placement of their threads (many stickied) without being forgotten.  I haven't settled on a name yet and am open to suggestions.  I think something in keeping with the other section names would be fitting, so Nats/Nats Park themed, but I'm not opposed to considering other options as well.

Consider this thread open for general discussion, suggestions, and please bring any other threads about passed members to my attention.

Nice concept, Chief.

This is not meant to lean the discussion one way or another, but there are a few parts of the park that honor the history of the DC baseball and the Nats. I'm thinking mostly of the photos on the walls with captions that highlight the first and second franchise and the Grays. I don't think there's a title for those displays, but if there is, that might be a title for the section.

Another thought would be to honor "The Best Seat in the House" that used to belong to Old Chelsea. While we hope he's just moved away from posting (no real word on his whereabouts or obvious cause for him to have stopped abruptly), using that might be both WNFF and Nats related.

These are just some ideas. Let's brainstorm a bit and figure out what's proper.

I guess NoSpinZone is too far in the past? He was the first poster I remember that passed. But I'm showing my age now.

There's a thread on him without his name in the title. SaltyDad started it.

Maybe these threads should have the name in their title. I know that when the news hits folks often don't put the name to avoid a shock, but if you are in the memorial section, then that shock should be gone.

Best Seat in the House would be a great name. Another poster I met several times and then never heard from was AngelosSux (LoveAngelos). As with Chelsea, hopefully he just retired and had better things to do. Although checking his bio, he last logged on in August 2019, he was looking for info on buying playoff tickets, damn.

See you later is pretty good. I wonder if someone would look at The Best Seat in the House as a section head and not recognized it is where the memorial threads are. Maybe "the best seat in heaven?"

You could still put in memoriam or something similar next to whatever the title ends up being with a dash, or parentheses or bracketed.

How about Nats (or Nationals) Memorial (Remembrance Thread)?

See you later is perfect.

FWIW, “Gone Home” is what we use in scouting when someone passes. It would be applicable here too

'See You Later - The WNFF Roll Of Honor'   (just thinking about how US stadiums have a 'Ring Of Honor').

Or we could channel our inner W.C. Fields and call it 'On the whole, I'd rather be at Nats Park...'.

Liking the feedback.  Not rushing to any decisions but "See you later" with a subheading of some sort seems like a strong contender.

I've updated NoSpinZone's thread to include his WNFF alias.

All good.

But maybe not Charlie's last game sign off... long season of silence.

Would "Retired Numbers" or any of the other suggestions need an explanation in the title? Like "See You Later: In Memoriam" or "Retired Numbers: WNFF Memorial Thread"?

IMHO, I'd say 'yes' - otherwise new members / guests might think we have a Bob Carpenter and retired numbers thread...

Resurrecting this

Seems like "See you later" and "Retired numbers" are the top picks. (I kinda liked "So long for just a while" but I admit it's a bit wordy)

Shall I make an actual poll?

A simple "in Memoriam" is the most tasteful....just the way it is now.
