That album influenced the Beatles to make Sgt. Peppers in response, but was hated by Mike Love, and a lot of Beach Boys fans at the time given it was such a deviation from their original style.

I recently watched the Beach Boys "Love and Mercy" biopic starring John Cusack as Brian Wilson, definitely worth watching though I kept seeing Lane Meyer the entire time and waiting for Wilson to be chased by a newspaper delivery boy on one ski.

Long Promised Road, from 2021, is also fantastic if you haven't seen it.

Wilson was just recently placed in conservatorship after the death of his wife and is suffering from dementia. :(

Always amazing that he lived so much longer than his brothers.  Pet Sounds was 1966.  It still had a couple hits.

And now it's considered one of the greatest albums every made.

Carl died of lung cancer, Dennis fell off a boat when drunk and drowned. In Long Promised Road Brian still had a lot of difficulty talking about the death of Carl.

It's incredible that Brian has made it into his 80's given health and drug issues.

Still expecting a concert report from TomTerp. In the meantime Neil is releasing some old stuff found in the vault from the original Crazy Horse. Here is the first song they have pre-released.

I saw the Beach Boys in concert in '71.  George Carlin was their opening act...

Scottish pirate metal and a German hurdy-gurdy player and singer. Quite the combination.

This is actually a more straightforward song, unlike much of Alestorm's more parody output. And I have a huge crush now on Fräulein Büchler.

To mark that, over here, we're enjoying that five-yearly round of fun and frolics otherwise known as a General Election Campaign.

Not posted for its political content (of which you can make what you will) but because it has such drive and energy, which is very enjoyable. Hopefully, as UK and not US, I won't feel JCA's icy finger... :D    ;)

Yasssss

We lost a lot of OG musicians to Covid...Mensi & Feedback from Upstarts, Andy Gill from Gang of Four, Dave Greenfield from the Stranglers, John Prine, Ellis Marsalis...the list goes on and on.

But back on topic...at least in most countries the weasels only go around kissing babies for a month and a half, here it's for a year and a half  :spaz:

24 Hours at a Time off of Where We All Belong. Freshman year, girl I had a crush on mentioned it to me as a song she and her old boyfriend used to listen to,  so I had to check Marshall Tucker out. Turns out, I loved MTB, and it kind of kicked off a Southern Rock phase.

I listened to the live Nassau Coliseum concert version the other night, but thought it was a bit rushed, worse sound quality even though both versions are live, and didn't have the Charlie Daniels fiddle. More Jerry Eubanks, which is always good, but Where We All Belong is still the best.

I saw Doug Gray's lineup around 2018 at the Birchmere. They have basically taken most of the jamming from 24 Hours and grafted it onto Blue Ridge Mountain Sky as their extended vehicle for solos. Works well.

Probably the strangest, non-spoof cover ever recorded - Noone sings Bowie sings Nietzsche...Critics generally agree that Noone probably had no idea what he was singing about... ;)

They think that demand for paying $150 for seats or $250 to stand—plus significant fees, of course—to see that lineup is going to be high enough to require a lottery??? I'm looking at the seats available for the SPH presale and it's weird: there are entire unsold rows in all sections, interspersed with multiple rows that are unavailable to buy. This tells me that many of these rows haven't even been put up for sale yet, and judging from the rows that are available to buy in the presale, ticket sales have been extremely light so far. Presale ends about an hour from now:
