Thought it might be fun to have a general prospects thread for folks who follow the minors and like to :az: over kids who show amazing talent. that, and the hype / projection machine where every one of these guys hit.

If folks are thinking we are going a bit over the top waiting for an outfield of Wood, Crews, and Lile or Hassell  and an infield of House, Abrams, Garcia (?), and TJ White (???), check out this article about Roman Anthony, the Red Sox second rounder from last year who has now exploded in rankings at BA and BP. He's just hit A+ at Greenville after not  so overwhelming debut at Salem. Good advanced metrics at low A with bad actuals nevertheless promoted him to A+, where he's the youngest guy in A+ and absolutely killing it (.338/.484/.770 with eight home runs, 19 RBI, and 21 walks in just 21 games. BP now has him as #9 overall, ahead of Marcelo Mayer, and BA had him #35 in its mid-season update after not having him listed in the top100 at the start of the year. CF now, projects as a corner outfielder.

How on Earth can 21 games flip this guy from a "who?" to a "can't miss?" Boston hype? maybe, but he's still a "who?" up there and not part of the hype machine.

Skenes was scheduled to throw a bullpen on Monday and will likely pitch in an FCL game by week's end.

Following Tucker Mitchell (catcher, 1st base), he was in our Boy Scout troop in Oakton before his parents sent him to a baseball school in Florida.  Would have attended Oakton High School.  No wonder Madison (Vienna Va) beats us like drum, they keep their talent*.   :bang:

Tucker was drafted in the 14th round by the Rangers in 2021, is currently at High A with the Down East Wood Ducks and after 24 games is mashing - .338   .460   .488   .948.  He's 22 years old.  https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=mitche000tuc

Another local kid to watch:
https://www.milb.com/player/zach-agnos-688642

My kids played with him at around age 11. He went to ECU as an IF, came out as a closer. Doing very well currently in the Rockies system at Single-A.  His older brother also got drafted out of ECU, to the Yankees as a pitcher, but has been hurt for the last couple of years.

Cool, says he is from Reston.  Typically South Lakes HS.

That's not accurate. They both went to Battlefield HS in Haymarket and are from the Haymarket-Gainesville area.

I see a lot of top kids now repeating 11th grade at Highland School in Warrenton to buy themselves an extra year of development.

As well as Crews has been playing, Wyatt Langford may have gotten off to an even better start:

Quote
Wyatt Langford is 15-for-38 with two home runs in 47 plate appearances between the Arizona Complex League and High-A Hickory. The 21-year-old outfielder was drafted fourth overall this year by the Texas Rangers out of the University of Florida.

...

Dylan Crews is 11-for-33 with two home runs in 34 plate appearances between the Florida Complex League and Low-A Fredericksburg. The 21-year-old outfielder was drafted second overall this year by the Washington Nationals out of LSU.

Crews today may have evened things out.

Langford is at one level above Crews too.

The other top guys have been pretty good as well:
- Max Clark is still in rookie ball but OPS'ng 1.241
- Walker Jenkins is also at rookie ball, less power but batting .379   / 1.021
- Jacob Wilson at High-A: .317 / .391 / .806
- Kyle Teel, who IMHO, was a steal for the Red Sox: .520 / .600 / 1.320 at High-A

This is a really special draft classs. I don't see that Lowder or Dollander have pitched yet.

With the draft pick incentive for top 100 players playing the whole year their rookie year of eligibility, I suspect you may see a lot of call ups down the stretch for guys who might start the season next year in the majors.  That may include Crews. Sort of testing them. It may mean burning an option, but I don't think a guy like Crews is likely to be on a shuttle between the majors and minors for 3 years at the start of his career.

Does anyone really know the requirements for the bonus RoTY draft pick? Is it top 100 from multiple organizations, or is it that and having been drafted the year before? How does this apply to internationals (or are they not eligible)?

Any player in the top-100 is eligible.

Players must be Top 100 in two of the lists compiled by MLB.com, Baseball America or ESPN to qualify.

They also must be legitimate rookies, which means they have 60 days or fewer of MLB service.

Julio Rodriguez got the Mariners a draft pick last year and he was an international signee

Elvir always notes how Double A is such a big test. I’m sure he will be fine in a bit.
