As much as the Scherzer move blew up in their face, the Montgomery move was brilliant
Yea.  Gotta give them credit for going all in.

Phillies secret weapon for the playoffs?  Orion Kekering threw a 100 MPH fastball and struck out two Mets in his debut inning. Was a fifth round draft choice out of USF in 2022 and pitched at all four major league levels this year. Why can’t the Nats have quick risers like this?  To be honest I don’t recall anyone shooting through the Phillies system like this before. Nola pitched in the big leagues one year after being drafted but was a first round pick

As number 50 he reminds of another Phillies September call up from many moons ago.

I would love to have been at that game!

Behind 4-0 already to Verlander. They are fading fast.

*s magic number is 5 on the Mariners. Mariners pretty much must win the next two. If they do, they leave the series up a game in the All-Important Loss Column.

Cardinals announce Adam Wainwright will not pitch again this season, thus ending his pitching career. He may make a pinch-hit appearance to get his send-off.

Mariners beat Houston so half game behind them now and even in the loss column for the last AL wild card spot.  Big game between the two again tonight.

Cubs blew a 6-0 lead and lost the game when Suzuki whiffed on a ball to RF.  Miami was positioned so a DH in NY today.

Diamondback in Chi town this PM also.

Will be interesting how they approach the next few games to set up their pitching.  They are probably better off with the last wild card spot. Not much difference between the Phillies and Brewers but if you beat the Brewers you get the Dodgers instead of the Braves.

Phillies have Wheeler set up to pic the tomorrow and then game one Tuesday. Nola pitched last night.  So does he get an inning over the weekend to prep for game 2?  Or just rest?

Last week of baseball is actually really good. The expanded playoffs are doing what we wanted.

Mets forgot to put the tarp on field over the weekend while the tropical storm was moving through.

Cubs lose, Marlins split, so tied at 82-76. D-backs clinching # is 3 vs each of those 2 for the 2d NL WC.

AL, *s won, so the Ms are back to a game down in the loss column for the last slot. Astros magic number over the Mariners is 3 (or 2 if they have the tie-breaker). Seattle has 4 left with the Rangers, while the Astros finish with 3 at the D-backs. Don't ask me the tie-breakers.

So, of the 4 games with the Rangers and the D-backs 3 with the *s, Seattle & the D-backs need to win 5.

Mariners season was over last night. And had to put up with trash talking from the Astros. Or is it trash can talking? The DBacks might be resting guys the last couple games.

Arizona loses. So chance for Chicago and Miami to pick up ground on them.

Cubs lose again. Marlins ahead in a rain delay. If they win they will be a game ahead for the final wild card. And effectively two games ahead as they won the tiebreaker over Chicago.

The Cubs are going to have to live all off-season with the leads they blew this week.

B-R still has them both at 82-76 :)  The Cubs actually have 77 losses.

looks like an 83-84 win team will make the playoffs in the NL. In the AL, it looks like it'll take 88-89 wins.

For perspective, the 83 win 2015 Nats would have missed the last wild card by one game to SF had there been 3 wild cards. Matt Williams maybe keeps his job. Standard decision.

Seattle still has a shot after a JP Crawford walk off HR last night.

Jays, Astros, and Seattle can all finish with 88 or 89 wins. Jays have the Rays at home.

Reds still technically in it. They hold tiebreakers over the Cubs and D-backs. Miami holds all tiebreakers.

After my bedtime but the Mariners saved their season with a 9th inning rally.  For now anyway.

Marlins game never finished so it will just be sitting out there like a big turd the next three days. I suppose they will finish it Monday if needed? They thought they had solved the issue of no tiebreaker so could start the wild card on Tuesday with everyone having a day rest. Not so fast says the weather.

JP Crawford has an OPS + of 129 this year. Gabe Kepler knew Scott Kingery was better. LOL.
