This may be a wake up series. Mets are a serious opponent, we are playing them on the road, and we have our better 3 starters lined up. Already last night, we have had a couple of our better pitchers put together legitimately dominant performances (Gray, Thompson). Run production will be awful this year, but a little reversion upward may be due. It's starting with Meneses. Add in some progress for younger players like Ruiz and Garcia, the Nats might get to the point where they can get the 4 runs a game that could win with quality pitching. If we take one of the next two with the Mets and 2 of 3 against Pittsburgh (a hot team), I think you'll start to see some "why aren't they as bad as we thought they'd be?" articles.
