Andree Braugher, the Captain on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, just 61. I remember first seeing him in a movie called Duets.

His most memorable role was in Homicide: Life on the Streets. Set in Baltimore. Outstanding show.

George McGinnis. Former ABA and NBA star.  Was a great athlete but not the hardest worker. Sixers could not get over the bump until they traded him for Bobby Jones.  He is in the HOF. RIP George.  You helped us forget 9-73.

wow. I think he may have been a bad Celtic pick around #6 in the draft. Bust as a pro, but a great player at UNC and way, way too young.

edit - #9

86. Had been under cancer treatment. the Smothers Brothers Show was originally put up as counterprogramming to Bonanza, then the #1 rated show on TV, but began to outdraw Bonanza due to its topical humor. The Smothers Brothers gave Steve Martin a start as a writer. Due to censorship battles and the show being killed due to its controversy, Tom became a big free speech advocate.

some stuff that's less widely known:

Quote
“The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” promised to make better use of their talents. But it, too, was ulcer-inducing. At the same time he was fighting with the network, Mr. Smothers found himself in conflict with his brother, who was more politically conservative. (Mr. Smothers later described himself as hot-tempered, prone to starting fights with just about anyone in order to get his way.)

After the show was canceled, “I lost perspective, my sense of humor,” he said in a 2006 interview with a Vancouver website, the Comedy Couch. He protested the Vietnam War and took part in John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Bed-In for Peace honeymoon in Montreal in 1969.

...

“The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” writing staff won an Emmy Award in 1969, but the politically controversial Mr. Smothers had omitted his name from the roster of nominees to avoid hurting the chances of the other writers. To rectify that omission, he was presented in 2008 with a special Emmy by Steve Martin.

This one sort of hits me.  Remember them well from my childhood. My father watched it; my mother didn't like it and I didn't understand why.

I remember Maggie Thatcher's famous rant against him in the House of Commons.  "No, No, No!"
