Logan Verrett
« on: June 27, 2022, 09:32:24 pm »
Never heard of him. Saw him pitch this weekend for Rochester against Syracuse for about 3 innings. 32 y/o righty with a splash of big league time for a couple of teams. 7 innings, 2 hits, only 1 run allowed if I'm not mistaken. He was throwing absolute filth. I'm talking really good everything. His curveball was the best I've seen out of anyone in this organization all season. It was breaking 3 feet. Maybe he's next up. Check him out next time around if you're able to. Syracuse is not an especially  good hitting minor league team, but nobody from anywhere was gonna barrel him up.

Yup. Maybe it's his time to shine. I posted a thread here about Tetrault a couple of weeks ago before anyone had paid him any mind and that's panned out pretty well so far. Maybe I can catch lightning in a bottle again. Just sayin, ain't braggin.....Verrett had great tempo also. All business, locked in with a plan. Not like Corbin who fusses and fidgets endlessly every time out. Just watching him pitch is excruciating, never mind all the gopher balls he serves up. Have a plan, trust your stuff, attack the zone, get ahead in the count, work quickly to keep your defense on its toes= good pitching.

Land, water, left, right; no, that's Pat Venditte.

Verrett's not a bad pitcher.  He's certainly better than some of the guys who have gotten MLB time for this year's Nats club.

I dunno. Maybe he's amphibious too. Maybe he swam to Korea and back to build up arm strength.

You mean like Joan Adon? Joan Rivers and Joan Jett could have put up better numbers.

Adon, the current iteration of Corbin, Machado, Clay, "Francisco Perez," Arano, Weems, Voth, and probably a few others I've mercifully forgotten.

Joan Jett, yes, but Rivers would be disallowed based on the fact that no non-organic substances can touch the ball.

Still digesting this one. But if I'm correct about what you're implying,  I'm on the verge of laughing my ass off.

Baseball Ref's "Similar" players is a list of pitchers I've never heard of, except, of all people, Paolo Espino.

I am implying only that Joan Rivers, eight years post-death, probably looks exactly the same as the day she was put there.

Verrett has been very good at Rochester over the last two months or so, I imagine he's next up on the starter board after someone else goes down.

3.26 / 0.88 in 6 July appearances (4 starts)
1.64 / 0.82 in 2 August appearances (1 start)

Last start yesterday: 6IP, 5H, 1ER, 5Ks, 0BBs.

Verrett is not on the Nationals 40 player roster, so, it'd have to be an 60 day IL injury or a release to get him to Washington.

There's no shortage of guys on the 40 currently who could be DFAed while doing the organization no disservice.  The bigger issue is actually the 26-man and the limit on the number of pitchers.  Unless Corbin is willing to slip on a banana peel, the most obvious move would be to dump Anibal, but I'm not sure they really want to end the dude's career that way given his importance to the 2019 team.  He deserves a decent send-off.

They could also demote Abbott and DFA any one of the dregs of the 40-man position players to create a spot there, but I don't see why Abbott should lose a spot to a different and older non-prospect SP.

DFA Arano, move Espino to the pen
