Today, he looked absolutely terrible at the plate and was clearly very frustrated. In addition to popping up a bunt, he hit a lot on the ground and just generally looked lost.
Defense is ok in CF, but nobody who's been in an MLB org for more than two years should be this underdeveloped physically or at the plate. He looks like a physically talented but totally raw HS draftee who should still be in rookie ball (back when non-complex-based rookie ball existed).
He's about 6'3", maybe even 6'4", but he has no appreciable muscle mass in his lower half and doesn't generate any power in his swing. Compare to MAT; that's the build you're looking for off this guy's frame. He'd need maybe 20-25 pounds of muscle at minimum to get there.
That swing features a top half and bottom half that are totally out of sync, mostly due to his front leg being having a bizarre pigeon toed thing when loading. He needs a complete teardown and rebuild on his swing. This approach is not going to work against higher level competition, just like it's not working now. I would considering pulling him out of competitive games after another week or so and do that rebuild at the complex and instructionals before sending him to winter ball.
The current path is a path to oblivion. For comparison, Ramirez is almost a year younger, at the same level, and looks significantly more advanced despite far inferior physical tools.
3-4, 3HR for the phenom tonight.
It was 3 doubles, and the rest of the series he went 0-15.
He has 4 homers all season and none in the last couple weeks.
