going to the FredNats Saturday night. 1st time at the park. At least there's a few guys to watch even after the draft choices moved on.

Have an awesome time. Get there early as parking can be chaotic. Be sure to take a loop around the stadium and check out the view from different locations.

I know it's stupid early for this guy but I'm already getting hyped. I'm a sucker for a dude who can take walks all day long.

BBA names Vaquero as the #17 FCL prospect after this past season.

here's the BA writeup:
Quote
Scouts lauded the 18-year-old Cuban for his well-rounded skill set, which included average or better tools across the board, including potential pluses for his speed and defense. He has the potential to be an above-average hitter and could get to average power as he adds strength to his frame. If everything comes together, he’ll fit toward the top of a batting order.

Today, he looked absolutely terrible at the plate and was clearly very frustrated.  In addition to popping up a bunt, he hit a lot on the ground and just generally looked lost.

Defense is ok in CF, but nobody who's been in an MLB org for more than two years should be this underdeveloped physically or at the plate.  He looks like a physically talented but totally raw HS draftee who should still be in rookie ball (back when non-complex-based rookie ball existed).

He's about 6'3", maybe even 6'4", but he has no appreciable muscle mass in his lower half and doesn't generate any power in his swing.  Compare to MAT; that's the build you're looking for off this guy's frame. He'd need maybe 20-25 pounds of muscle at minimum to get there.

That swing features a top half and bottom half that are totally out of sync, mostly due to his front leg being having a bizarre pigeon toed thing when loading.  He needs a complete teardown and rebuild on his swing.  This approach is not going to work against higher level competition, just like it's not working now. I would considering pulling him out of competitive games after another week or so and do that rebuild at the complex and instructionals before sending him to winter ball.

The current path is a path to oblivion.  For comparison, Ramirez is almost a year younger, at the same level, and looks significantly more advanced despite far inferior physical tools.

3-4, 3HR for the phenom tonight.

It was 3 doubles, and the rest of the series he went 0-15.

He has 4 homers all season and none in the last couple weeks.

More time, more hope.  He's fixable, but he needs fixing.

Golden on Green and Vaquero's struggles and adjustments this year.
Quote
“I think him being a switch hitter and … he signed for a lot of money, there’s some added pressure [for] him,” Lowery said. “But his first full season, not just coming up and playing at the end of the year, there’s a lot to like.”

Lowery lauded Vaquero’s defense despite his offensive struggles, which the team has been working to fix. Vaquero has had issues with timing. He sometimes would overstride, forcing his front foot nearly out of the batter’s box. That led to popups instead of line drives. Other times, he wouldn’t stride at all.

Vaquero has mixed in a small leg kick during some at-bats, and Lowery hopes that will stick. It helps him get his plant foot down sooner and stay upright. It also helps him recognize breaking pitches, Lowery said.
