Except for Ben Gamel, I don't think I have ever heard of any of the Pirates players in that line-up.

I've heard of Bryan Reynolds. He is really good.

And Ke'Bryan Hayes played the last time the Pirates played the Nats. But the world wonders what happened to Wilmer Difo?

Incidentally, Baseball Ref says that the Pirates farm director is Larry Broadway, who played for the New Nationals in 2005.

As I thought about it, it occurs that I had heard of Hayes, who was being touted on MLB Network earlier in the season when he was hitting around .300.  It may just be my fault, since I haven't been watching much MLB Network lately, so I don't have a grasp on non-East teams these days.

Does anyone know why this game was scheduled for 6:35? I know the Atlanta start times are a little later than the usual 7:05 starts because of Atlanta traffic, but I don't know why this game is earlier than normal.

On bench. He has played 98 games and 6 positions, including pitcher.

Nicely deadened bunt by Cody Ponce. Are pitchers the only ballplayers who learn to bunt? (Except for Andrew Stevenson...)

Kieboom with a good play. I hate to agree with FP, but CK looks to have improved.

tsutsugo was a ray last year but didn't crack the lineup.  Alford was a big outfield prospect for the Jays several years ago. Speed power. K'd too much and injuries kept him stuck in the minors.

Watched an inning of Rochester against the Scranton / Wilkes Barre Rail Riders, the Yankees AAA team. Got to see Cavalli. He gave up two singles: one was a Baltimore Chop that hit just in front of the plat and bounced over the 2B's head. Second a griounder that the SS, J. Flores, missed by a step. No runs, though. Cavalli held SWB hitters about even with his fastball, and wiped them out with his curve. Nice loop, Espino-style, on the curve. He missed a couple of curves inside or outside. Altogether, CC looked good but clearly needs some work before ready for the Nats.

7 innings out of a starter is MVP vote territory for this squad
