I thought we had one of these...but couldn't find it...

Anyway, this story is reason enough to start one...

Nick is the son of a fella that I hired back in the day that still works at the company I retired from in 2014.

Nick won the MLB version of the Punt/Pass/Kick Virginia competition for his age group back in 2013, IIRC, and we saw him honored for that achievement on the field at Nats Park that summer.

He's really pretty accomplished at this point in his "career" and I'd like to think we'll see him playing in Nats Park one day...regardless of what MLB uniform he may be in.

Sounds like he's got a really good head on his shoulders when it comes to dealing with adversity, and the ability to honestly self-assess what is going well, what needs work, and what to do next. I'm awful at remembering names, but would enjoy hearing more about his career as it develops.

That's a great story, thanks for sharing.

For every player who makes it to the majors there must be 100 who had a chance but who went down with injury issues. A friend of mine's son signed with a big-name D1 program out of high school as a lefty starter topping out at 92 MPH.

Two years, and UCL and shoulder surgery later, he just threw in his first live game since he got hurt before his freshman year, only now he's at a JuCo trying to work his way back to D1 or a long shot chance of getting drafted.  His college program pulled his scholarship when he got hurt.

I can't read the article as it's behind a paywall.  I am sure he is a good dude as most Hokies are.  Their team is much improved this year.

sticking this here for max publicity.

Crystal City vax site is now taking walk-ins through the end of the week, when it will shut down.  They are open 9 AM - 7 PM inside the underground behind We the Pizza.  If you remember far enough back, this is the old Safeway location.  I believe they are just offering Pfizer. 16 an up, 16 7 17 year olds need a parent.

900 year old Crusader sword found in the waters off Caesaria.  My cousins live on a Kibbutz over part of the old fortress / port of Caesaria.  I last visited almost 30 years ago.  At that time, they were accelerating the digs as sort of a work project for an immigrant wave.  From my cousins' perspective, the ruins were sort of a pain in the butt, because every time they would excavate to dig a foundation, they'd come across ruins and have to call in the antiquity commission to investigate.  The walkways all had excavated capitols at the intersections.

I received a spam email with an attachment from Mr. David Bowie.

He's Alive!!!!!

He said he was floating 'round his tin can, far above the moon.  Reports planet Earth is blue from his vantage point.

Didn’t know where to put this. Good news for the claimant and I guess anyone else who got an STD in a car.

The reporting on that story has been really bad. The woman and the man ended up in arbitration. The panel decided 5.2 million was fair compensation. They also added a stipulation that the guy had limited liability and she needed to collect the judgment, if possible, from GEICO.  GEICO did say, 'Whoa, wait, what??!' and asked to have the amount reviewed/overturned/give them a chance to defend.

The court ruled that they could have helped defend the man, their client, at the arbitration hearing, and did not. Due to the court's limited ability to overturn an arbitration award, GEICO was told no. They aren't allowed to have another arbitration hearing to change the amount.

What the reporting leaves out is that there is a second suit pending that will determine whether or not getting and STD in someone's car is something covered under an auto or umbrella policy. That will almost certainly go in GEICO's favor, because it's just stupid, and the woman will not be able to collect a damn thing.
