Oh man. My wife and I went to the watch party at Nats Park and we had promised our babysitter (who has a 9-5 day job) that we'd be back home by 11:30.

It's 10:40 PM as the game enters the 7th inning, seemingly bound for extra innings. Things are moving SLOOOOWLY as the Astros exhibit tremendous plate discipline against Strasburg, making him labor in at-bat after at-bat. The crowd got amped up by Strasburg escaping from the 6th inning, but really the life had been taken out of the crowd by the Bregman home run. It only got loud to boo calls by Doug Eddings, who was squeezing Strasburg all night.

Thankfully, just then the Nats offense and the Astros defense bail me out. We stay through the Zimmerman infield hit when we feel it's safe to go home. Arrive home to relieve the babysitter of duty at 11:26 PM. Turn on the TV just in time to see Eaton make it 10-2.

Lost in all of this scoring is the fact that Rodney and Rainey faced the Astros and gave up 0 runs.

It's not over yet.  Stros can light it up. 2-0 can easily be 2-1.  I think if it's 3-0 they are in trouble.
But next game is crucial.

The six run inning will prove huge because we didn’t have to use Hudson or Doolittle tonight.  They get a couple days now and should be ready for the weekend.

Exactly. Which means in Game 3, we could conceivably have Scherzer available out of the pen and Doolittle and Hudson available for 4+ outs each

When's the last time the Astros lost 12-3?  Did it even happen once during the regular season?

Total dominance!   :whip:

they scored 5 runs with 2 outs in the 7th inning! Cabrera's two run single broke their back.

I don’t bet much. Looked at all the different ones and that caught my eye. $50 to win $500. I figured no way but what the heck.

That's a nice payout, and you're in good position to hedge in Game 3 for a guaranteed win.

They lost 10-3 against the Rays in the ALDS. The A’s clobbered them 21-7 in September (the day after the Astros beat them 15-0 after beating Seattle 21-1 the previous day).

12-3, no. But Seattle beat them 14-1 and they lost to Oakland 21-7

Haven't been on here in forever but had to jump on to say, holy hell, this is the greatest thing that has ever happened!

I still have a 2016 quote from you in my signature, which was appropriate for tonight's blowout win.

tonight's game was like a heavyweight fight where both fighters were landing good shots and body blows, wearing each other down, and then Suzuki landed a big shot in the late rounds and it tilted the fight and led to the knockout

now it's a 5 game series, you only have to win 2 games and the first 3 games are at home

80% of the teams that win the first 2 go onto win the Series.

What about when winning the first 2 away?
