The bad move was taking out Greinke. he was dealing and at 80 pitches. I don't agree Cole is the right move. For every Bumgardner in 2014 there is a Scherzer in 2017 or a Kershaw in 2019.

Hinch was a fool to yank Greinke. He had hitters looking stupid all night, had given up just 3 hits, and was at only 80 pitches. Yet he convinced himself that Harris was a better option at that point, better even than Cole, and a bit later so was Ozuna in his mind. Thank you, A.J.. I'll never understand it, but thanks a million for turning a tight ballgame into a 4 run Houston loss.

I don't know BS - the fact the Nats were seeing Greinke for the 3rd time would have an impact on his effectiveness.  Hinch was in a tough spot.

Cole apologized for his tone after the loss. Left the door open to return.

He won't be staying. He only said that to repair the damaged image he presented to the rest of the league.

Public clearly turns on you the second you appear like a douche

there's a comment chain on that tweet that unfolds exactly like the thread about it here, in fact I'm not convinced one of the people defending the call isn't Minty :lmao:

Even if Cole gave up multiple runs, it wouldn't have hurt his current market value.  He's going to be a very rich man.  I  bet he absolutely wanted to pitch -- just common sense.  The best pitcher should not be held back in that situation (with two days rest).

That game was insane.  Greinke was working on a one hitter with one out in the 7th inning, a low pitch count, and a two-run lead.   Max somehow managed to grind out five innings and give up only two runs, with so many LOB.  Earlier in the series Corbin was doing his best impression of Gio Gonzalez.  Now he proceeds to carve up the best hitting line-up in baseball.

In reality, I think you're right. But, Cole's post-game remarks really bother me. Cole may end up being a hall-of -famer, but he's never going to be loved like Cal Ripken, Derek Jeter, or even Ryan Zimmerman. I'm sure that Harper is second guessing himself now. Sure, he can convince himself otherwise by looking in his bank account, but there's more to life than money...

Everyone has a plan until you get punched in the face!  A.J. wanted to save Cole for the 8th or 9th inning WITH A LEAD. He also didn't plan on Grienke pitching into the 7th. But, after the game, A.J. Hinch responded to interview questions by stating that the Nationals were the real story. I give him props for that. He's competitive, and he wanted to win, but he showed some class by recognizing/crediting the Nationals. The reporters should follow suit.

Found this take on Gerrit Cole interesting possibly quite true.
