Stras not looking happy but at 99 pitches it’s the right call.

No it's not! He just had an easy 1-2-3 inning. How often do our relievers do that?

It's possible that Strasburg thought he was done for the night

So you would rather have Turner and Eaton or Eaton, Rendon, and maybe Soto???

I’d rather Turner have gotten a hit. I’m saying the idea that you just take a strike on 3-0 isn’t necessarily the correct one. If he swung at ball 4, sure. But if he screwed up on a pitch down the middle that would have resulted in a 3-1 count if he hadn’t swung, I’m not as upset with that.

3-0 is called a hitter’s count for a reason. I think the idea you automatically take is an outdated one.

well, swinging on 3-0 is usually reserved for elite or power hitters. I don't think Turner is either.

Just like the intentional walk can't the Nats just point to 2nd and let the runner walk down there?

Conventional wisdom. Which more often than not isn’t correct. Letting the pitcher have a free pitch down the middle doesn’t seem like good strategy.

Correct.  Ball didn't end up in left field.

ok, I can appreciate that. But, conventional widom also says to never let your starters pitch more than 100 pitches. Even if you have the WORST bullpen in baseball?  I hope the bullpen redeems themselves today!

As big as this game is, I was thinking at least 115 pitches for Strasburg. Hopefully the bullpen has something special for us tonight.

well his 1-2-3 5th inning looked good. That should be considered as part of the decision.

A bench coach stand-in is not going to make risky calls with the talent.

Then Rizzo should be texting his stand-in manager. This game is freaking HUUUUGE!

If they gave Fowler the intentional steal they probably get the strike call there........catcher blocked out the chump
