Oh my goodness!!!  They are stunning!!!  I love the trace of blue in the river (or whatever body of water it is) in that 3rd one.  It's so little, but says alot in what looks like an arrid place.  Actually very poetic!  Now, why are you working on computers???  You have an amazing talent!!!  That first one should be framed!

Great shots! What camera did you use and what are the dimensions of the original images?

I just got this camera in January: it's the Canon Rebel XTi 35mm Digital SLR.  For these photos I used the super wide angle lens that I purchased just for this type of landscape.  I know I've told Kim, but not sure if I told the rest of the board...I was a photojournalism major in college and trained to be a professional photographer.  I was the photo-editor for the college newspaper my junior and senior years.

Here's a few more...

Yawapai Point

Trailview Point

Pipe Creek Vista

Hermit's Rest

You have a pretty damn good camera, I bought a Nikon D50 35mm SLR in December. It's only 6.1 megapixels, but I really don't need that much most of the time. As part of a contest (about who walks in the store when... I was number 250 on the day) I also ended up getting a free 18-135mm lens to go with it. On hindsight, looking back, I should have asked for the flash attachment instead. (btw, the 1000th person to walk got a 46 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV) at least I think it was a Bravia.

I know several who take shots with their Rebels, they are great for hockey games and it's fast pace. I love the ability to do bursts and have captured a few goals using it. I need to take course, because I'm not that great a photographer, and because I'm not that great, I don't use it as much as I should.

Kudos on those great shots, you have a good eye. Not everyone does, I certainly don't.

Nice!!!  I've only seen the Grand Canyon from 30,000 feet, and your pictures have convinced me that I need to check it out from ground level.  Great shots.

Nikon just offered a competitor to mine the D40X, which is a 10 megapixel camera with all the same bells and whistles.  But I've been a Canon guy since my grandfather gave me one when I was about 16 years old so I just stick to what I'm familiar with.

So, my last SLR was a (film) Pentax Spotmatic F I bought in Hong Kong 20 years ago for a couple hundred bucks...dare I ask what a digital SLR goes for these days?  (cringe...)

I have one of those tiny little 6.0 mpx Canon doohickies, but that's just not really even in the same genus of cameradom.

These (the first list, ignore the second) are the cameras in my category of SLRs.  Which are 10 megapixel Consumer models.   http://www.epinions.com/Digital_Cameras--reviews--10_mega_pixel_digital_cameras
The three largest competitors in the market are Canon, Nikon and Sony.

You get a little more expensive at the Prosumer level...and then ridiculously high at the Pro level (the top of the line Canon 1D Mark III goes for around $5000 just for the body - that's with NO LENS!  :P )

This is Canon's Line:  http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=111

The Rebel XT & Xti are Consumer Models
The 30D & 5D are Prosumer
The 1D is their Professional Model which translates to meaning lotsa $$$!

To expand on Ken's throught, having the eye for the photograph is crucial, and having the equipment (and know-how to use it) to execute the plan is important also.  You have to bring it all together.

Sens, going to enter the Post's photo contest this year?

Can you spot the two condors sitting on the rock in the center right of that particular photo?   8)

That's very cool! 8) I didn't notice them before but now I see them (I'm a birder as well as a baseball nut).

My uncle entered a pic in the Post contest one year, and won a 2nd prize in one of the categories.  Thing is, he isn't much of a photographer, but he saw a good subject and went for it.  His aunt (my great aunt), began to climb a tree by shimmying up the trunk.  She was 89 at the time and proud of her physical ability, plus she had a bright purple sweater on.  He took a picture of her peering from around the trunk, her face aglow with the accomplishment and her purple sweater a punctuation mark of color in anotherwise normal brown and green background.

You never know when the opportunity might arise, be ready!
