So is Eddie Merckx, but he knows enough to not try for another Tour.

Dave Vanian is 62 and he's gotten better if anything.

Flashback Sunday:

I've gotten some 50 year old pictures sent to me by HS classmates of late.  These are pretty special...

In July, 1969, a leather goods store, The House Of Lewis, put on a free concert on their back porch that overlooked an alley in Skokie, Illinois, with what he described as some of his friends.

I was there, along with a number of fellow HS students.  At the mini-reunion I attended in March of this year, I learned from my classmate Frankie that not only was he there, but he'd taken a number of snapshots on his Brownie.  These are several of those snapshots.

Here we have 24 year old Eric Clapton, and Bonnie Bramlett of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, and a bunch of 16 and 17 year old kids:

Another picture of Slowhand, this time with Delaney.  The big fella in the white long-sleeve shirt is Lewis:

IIRC, Ginger Baker was there as well, but I'm not sure he played.  I have no pictures to confirm that, though I believe this is Ginger over Eric's right shoulder.

Here is a 2013 write-up by the Chicago PBS station about that day:

A Guitar God Comes to Skokie

https://news.wttw.com/2013/09/16/guitar-god-comes-skokie

The woman quoted in the article, Judy Clutters, was another classmate.

Delaney & Bonnie and Friends members at different times included Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, George Harrison, Leon Russell, Bobby Whitlock, Dave Mason, Rita Coolidge, King Curtis, and Eric Clapton.

My short term memory is pretty non-existent, but I remember being there for this like it was yesterday...  :old:

Ringo and his all-star band at Wolf Trap.  The kids have been on a Beatles kick as of late and so this may be their last chance to actually see one of them.  The lineup includes the lead singer/guitarist from Toto, Greg Rollie from Journey/Santana, and Colin Hay from Men at Work.

I'd totally go see Ringo if he were around here, that's probably going to be a really fun concert.

OT     Probably mentioned this before but the Beatles reference brought back to me  ....   In the mid/late 70s, my buddy's son (maybe 12 or 13 at the time) wanted to know if Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings.

FWIW, most of my teenage sons friends are largely listening to bands like Queen, Def Leopard, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles.  Last night the kids and I watched The Eagles concert from 2004 that AXS TV has been airing on almost a continuous loop for the last few days.  I really want to see Queen + Adam Lambert but even the cheapest seats are still north of $200 for the concert in a few weeks at Cap One.

Ringo Starr show was pretty fantastic.  It also featured Hamish Stuart from the Average White Band.  Not very many concerts can you hear the best of Toto, Santana, AWB, Men at Work, and Ringo.  They are playing in Richmond later this week.  And whatever Ringo is taking to look 50 when he's 79 should be bottled and packaged for the rest of us.

Hamish Stuart was a member of Paul McCartney's band on the 1990 world tour when McCartney finally embraced Beatles music and played a lot of it for the first time (as opposed to the five songs he played on the 1976 Wings tour).

As far as music we're listening to....I was delinquent in buying Brian Fallon's new album, Sleepwalkers, and I finally picked it up late last month. Listened to it at work one day....oh boy. The last song is called "See You on the Other Side" and contains the repeated line "When we grow old and die, I'll see you on the other side." I first heard the song three days after my father's funeral Mass, which was on July 16, and I just about broke down at work. Have not been able to listen to the entire album since then. I like Fallon's stuff (he was the lead singer for the Gaslight Anthem), but I can't listen to that song again right now.

Bryan Ferry and the Stray Cats playing at the same time tomorrow  :panic:

(And Joan Jett, but I'm never setting foot in Jiffy Lube Live again)

it's not so much setting foot in Jiffy Lube that's the problem, it's trying to get out after the shows.  :)

I saw Styx/Reo Speedwagon/Don Felder there a few years ago, the bands sounded great but the crowd just sat there and watched.  I felt like I was watching TV rather than being at a concert.  Tonight's full lineup is Styx/Joan Jett/Tesla.

I wonder what folks are going to go see in 20 years when all the 80s and 70s bands are gone.

That is a dog's breakfast of a lineup.  Think I'll wait for Joan Jett to come back to Anthem or the 9:30.

Raconteurs are at the Anthem this weekend. I wouldn't have gone, but my friend is coming from out of town to see it and bought me a ticket. I haven't been to a concert since I've moved here, I think...
