Six year deal.

Very unexpected, very pleasing.

As I said in another thread, six years is an awful lot for a guy who's several years post-TJ.

Which is why I think UMDNat's response is accurate. I want to love this move, but am unsure.

Going to be a lot of deferred money in this thing.

I'm meh on Corbin, but starting pitching was our single greatest need this offseason. We have 0 prospects for the rotation that look good for the next 2-3 years and this gives us 3 #1 level guys, even if one of those guys is only good for 25 starts a year.

I suspect the rest of the offseason is relatively quiet except for a Rendon extension announced right after Bryce decides to go to Philadelphia.

6/126 according to the internet. yikes. I hope he's good.

Probably more than that actually, with deferrals of course.

200 IP last year, 2.2 BB/9, 11.1 K/9, 3.15 ERA

That's pretty good.

You seem to think you're rebutting my point (multiple times) by showing a 30 year old who's averaged fewer than 25 starts over the past 4 years and is owed ~135 million over remainder of his contract.

It is.   On the other hand, his career ERA is 3.91.  I like him.  He's a good pitcher and a good athlete - he'll add to the crop of decent-hitting pitchers, as well.  But he's subject to the same uncertainties as all starting pitchers and he's already got 630 innings on his TJ-repaired elbow.

with deferrals, Lerner will be paying this team for 20 years.

Needed a left handed starter. Got one. Good move Rizzo. Now get a 2B and extend Rendon. The end.

I hope he can do it a few more times. Last year was far and away the best year of his career, I'd hate to pay a dude for 6 years based on that performance alone. He had the lowest velo of his career and threw the least amount of fastballs. But he also struck out way more batters than he ever had before so maybe it's sustainable. Also he'll 4 years out from TJ, so his arm is a ticking time bomb.

I don't want to be sour about it but honestly I'm not a fan.

thinking about it this way, we upgraded the Gio spot.  Now we just need Roark to bounce back, and Ross to contribute.

This means Ross, Fedde & whoever else will be asked to be the #5 starter rather than #4, which is huge. The more I think about it the more I like it. Worst-case he's an overpaid #3 pitcher, which is absolutely OK.

If I’m the Lerners I’d rather be paying them in 20 years instead of now given the time value of money.
