The Phillies didnt do anything special to lower the tax hit. They signed him to 13 years.

Didn't study the terms, but I thought it was said that the signing bonus enabled the tax hit to be less yearly.

No. It's based off the totally amount and years.

I saw where the Indians just inked CarGo to a minor league deal so he's not an option anymore.

Going and signing a CF right now that hasn't played good CF or batting over .240 in 17-18 doesn't seem like a good idea.

There is zero chance Turner plays CF.

I don't know. Given the scenario he gave, I'd be OK with that. Kieboom looks ready to be honest.

My guess is they have been in touch with Span and told him if Robles gets hurt, they will give him a call, so be ready. We can't go an extended period with Stevenson or Difo in CF.

Why wouldn't they just offer him a minor league contract with an opt-out after a month or six weeks instead? That way he gets the run and the team has him signed. Given the timing, he'd be in extended spring training the bulk of the time anyway, and I think he lives in Florida anyway.

Taylor did some light things today even hitting off a tee. So he will be down for a short time.

I missed it, how did this forum react when Harper signed with the Phillies? Any highlights I should know?

Looking forward to the season and crapposting again soon. Although I don't have high hopes for the season. I think the Roark moves were crap and we're still relying too heavily on players (e.g., Strasburg, Eaton, Zimmerman) who are always injured and some other ones (e.g., Kendrick, Corbin, Doolittle) who aren't spring chickens and could easily get hurt.

Especially for what they're paying him: $3 million if he makes the MLB roster plus "incentives." I have trouble believing nobody offered him more earlier in the process.

I'd happily take Span. I still think his 2014 season was about the most perfect season we will ever have out of a center fielder. Killed it at the plate and somehow he had negative fWAR defensively when by the eye test he looked amazing.

Span would be a good veteran backup who would be very serviceable for stretches if needed.

Sure would be a helluva better option for centerfield depth than Stevenson.

Andrew Stevenson would be a valuable player as a 25th man. I expect the Nats will be using defensive subs late in a lot of games.

I'm not sure his best value is as a frontline outfielder over a long stretch.
