We should all know that the NL East has gotten more competitive this year as the Braves and Phils are ahead of us in the standings. Last year our record against the Braves was 10-9. That should have been an indicator that the division was improving and the FO should have anticipated a more competitive division. I was curious what the results were this year versus last year.

Yep and a possible game or two difference with the fish.  With all the hand wringing and lamentations of what went wrong it was barely mentioned that the division was stronger and the records of last year were not taken into account because we had another exceptional won -loss record. I think they call that hubris.

This. Strasburg went to the DL. While he was there, Gio Gonzalez went 1-9 with 6.78 ERA, and Tanner Roark went 5-6 with a 4.56 ERA. Jeremy Hellickson was our defacto number 2. Sean Doolittle quickly followed Strasburg in early July. Then you had Herrera and Madson with injuries. And the whole time, no Daniel Murphy and Bryce Harper trying to hit 55+ homers for himself in a career year.

Interesting stats. Pitching was certainly the first problem--also the second and the third problem. Doesn't Petunia ALWAYS goes on the DL? When did Gio last have two good years in a row? Roark in a playoff rotation? October with a BP of mediocrities? Many here saw this early. Management never did. It's not my money--but for what they'd have to pay to keep Harper, seems they could invest in a couple top-end starters and a consistent reliever. Let Juan be the new Bryce. Guy settles for base hits with RISP.

5 game swing against the Mets.

The Mets have more wins (36) than the brewers (34)  or the cubs (35) since the all star break. They have the same win-loss record as the Braves. I haven’t checked any of the other NL teams but the Mets don’t suck as badly as we mindfact them to suck.

I’m excited about next year. Mainly because of Robles and Turner at the top of the lineup. That kind of speed can wreak havoc. Rendon needs to be signed long term. Add some veteran starting pitching. Sign an adequate starting catcher. I hope Eaton can be at 100%. He was a shell of himself this year. Difo/Kendrick can split time at 2b.

A lot of things went wrong this year. Lost a lot of 1 run games. Terrible record in extra innings. Sloppy baserunning. Clean things up and this is a 1st place club. With or without Harper.

We loved every minute of the season  ...  the "it's early"; small sample size; rainouts; heat; wins; losses; damned Cardinal/Cubs/Mets fans; late night WC game; the Marlin's swordfish; view of The Point; my new found love of stadium tater tots and Vienna Lager; WNFF meet up; hoodies; steins to be picked up  ....   I can't wait for next year.

Rough season with a lot of rough moments. Not really sure where it all went wrong, but certainly a forgettable season.

Definitely expecting a really different team next year.

I've tired of opening day crowds, but never miss closing day.  JMax's walk-off slam was a particularly memorable one.  This year's being a 4:00 start is a nice bonus.
