Teddy's Garage Sale (Sept. 24-26)
« on: September 10, 2018, 04:20:57 pm »
This looks interesting. I'm sure the bobbleheads will be the first to go.

From the site:

Quote
Teddy recently took some time to clean out the promotions closet at Nationals Park and he was surprised to see how much stuff he collected over the years! One mascot's trash is another fan's treasure!

The Nationals will be hosting the first ever garage sale at Nationals Park September 24-26. This three day event is a unique opportunity for fans to collect giveaway items from 2018 and previous seasons.

Each special ticket purchased includes a voucher valid for your choice of one giveaway item. Available items will be on display and fans will be invited to choose their favorite. Teddy will be bringing out new items each day, so make sure to purchase your tickets for all three games!

Here's what will be available:

  • Nationals Holiday Ornaments
  • Bobbleheads
  • Max Scherzer Snow Globes
  • Bryce Harper & Stephen Strasburg Wine Stoppers
  • Bryce Harper Starting Lineup Figurines
  • Election Night Figurines
  • Baseball Grills
  • Nationals Scrub Tops
  • Game of Thrones ® T-shirts
  • Margaritaville T-shirts
  • Firefighter Appreciation T-shirts
  • Nationals Yoga Mats
  • Nationals Picture Frames
  • Nationals Tote Bags
  • Budweiser Beer Steins
  • Nationals Coffee Tumblers
  • Nationals Water Bottles

I guess this is a win-win for the Nats and the fans. People can't seem to get enough of the merchandise. Not me, though. I have accumulated way too much of this stuff over the years. Lots of bobbleheads and various apparel so much that I'm running out of room.

I'm sure people would buy your stuff, especially if you got them for free.

in the old days, before we were good, the players would come out after the last home game and toss all this stuff to the fans.

The Nats Pack still does this some of this last week, but I have not been to been to the last game the last couple of years.

I wore my hoodie for the first time today. Not bad. Won't last though. It's kind of a tight fit for an XL and the zipper is plastic. But, hey, it was free.

Couldn't beat the price.    :)    Told the missus it appears to be a limited wear item.    Washing it may cause it to disintegrate.

Was XL the biggest size they had? This seems like a hoodie you'd wear while lounging around the house :)

Exactly.    It's wear for a cool winter day/night and the house is chilly.    Or maybe to make a run to the mailbox.    It ain't built to shovel snow in.

Of course not. The sweater would collapse six innings into the shoveling, and the snow would freeze you all over.

So they are trying to get rid of all the garbage from not sold with RCR points?

I’m with 9000 points and I too have too much of this giveaway crap. What to do?

And the hoodie seems like it made of paper machie crossed with foam. Sure makes me appreciate the awesome and keep going strong pre shrunk red and gray curly W shirt giveaways from years ago.

I'd take some of them off your hands, depending on the crap.

You could probably get a ticket rep to do a special suite redemption for you. There will probably also be one last, small batch of “experience” rewards posted for the final home stand. Control Room Tour, Broadcast Booth Visit, etc. Those are really really fun.

FWIW they’re moving away from the swag rewards and wanting to make it more experience rewards because it’s a nag for them to manage, say, 8 Scherzer snow globes and 12 assorted bobblehead. Someone counts the inventory wrong or drops one or gives out the wrong thing, and that makes them one short, so whoever buys that item with points ends up disappointed. By garage sale’ing the leftovers, they set the expectation that it’s a random assortment, plus they get to get rid of all their oddball crap.

I'm not into holding the line for the President's race or stuff like that.  As for suites, I don't see them on the site.  I blew it not getting diamond club auction seats but last week or two have  been veg out when I get off work and don't take timeouts for that stuff (or even much moderating ;) ) when I'm at work.
