I’m sick of hearing how much talent this team has. They suck. You are what your record says you are. The Nats were 33-23 at the end of May. Since then, they’ve gone 34-45. Let that sink in. 34-45 is abysmal. Outside of Soto, there’s not much to like about this group.

I feel bad for the fans. 162 games is a marathon. We’ve watched every game. Hoping. Hoping that this team would catch fire. We all thought the Braves and Phillies would fade. That the Nats would go on a run. It never happened.

Now what? September is here. The games are basically meaningless. We can root on Soto to win ROTY. Catch a glimpse of Robles. Welcome back Joe Ross. Not much else to look forward to. October hasn’t been kind to the Nats, but I appreciated the intensity of it all. It’s a somber feeling knowing they won’t be a part of it this year. 

The future is murky. Starting pitching is an issue. Schezer is Scherzer. There’s no signs of him slowing down. After that? A ton of question marks.

The offense on paper should be elite. A lot of impressive names and talents. Collectively? There isn't a single clutch hitter in the bunch. A 19 year old has the best approach on the team.

What to do with Harper? Casuals want to resign him. It’s the only jersey they own. Die hards know it’s not the prudent move. Spread that money around. There’s other priorities. Get some veteran starting pitching. Extend Rendon. Find an adequate starting catcher.

That’s all folks. Thanks to anybody that read all of this. I had to vent and express myself after watching these guys go 1/14 with risp.

Our best hope is that this abortion of a season shakes the hubris out of the entire organization, from the laid back, country club, caviar eating players to the front office that thought they could just hire a warm body to manage the team.  Good riddance 2018 season.

The funny thing is, both the Phillies and the Braves did fade to some extent.  The August record thread has it, but the Phillies I think we sub .500 and dropped out of playoff position while the Braves were something like 17-13.  We go 21-12 instead of sub 500, we are about tied for first and in wild card position, I think.  Months are convenient ways to break up the season even if they are a bit arbitrary.  We had one month over .500.

I'm rooting for the Nats to win each game, and, by the end, to have finished at or above .500. Hope and wait for next year. Team should be good.

Starting pitching will be pretty good next season, with Scherzer, Strass, Roark. Maybe Ross will have found a third pitch and maybe Fedde will be good enough.

Will be interesting to see Robles, finally.

Rizzo will need to find a free-agent starter and a catcher. Probably a second-baseman as well.

If we are what are our record is, we are a .500 team.  Nothing more, nothing less.  Why cherry pick our peak record as the starting point?   You could also say we're 58-53 since Apr 28.

All in all, starting pitching depth (and bullpen depth after firing 2 relievers), didn't give us a chance to win enough games.   Way too many games started by AAAA/AAA/AA pitchers this year for a luxury tax payroll.

I’m very happy to finally see Rizzo turn the page. Not gonna miss much from this group of underachievers and their entitled behavior. Time to put some blue collar guys out on that field that we can all root for.
