The Phillies and Braves might explode in the last third of the season, but even so, the Nats have to aim for at least 88-90 wins. Say 89 to split the difference, they need to go 40-23 from now on.

I don't see that happening at all. I expect the Braves and Phillies to finish at least a game or two above .500, so even with reduced expections, the Nats need to go 37-26. It's doable, if they play like May, but if they play like spring training, April, June and July, they obviously have no shot.

I understand that Rendon is a different kind of fella. The laughing, joking, always has a smile type. Yelich delivers a backbreaking 3 run triple and Rendon is laughing his ass off at 3b. What the freak? I don’t expect these guys to live and die with every pitch, but c’mon! This isn’t Palm Beach. The season is on the line.

Between that and Trea’s blunder, it makes me ask the question - does anybody care? I just don’t see the effort or urgency needed to turn this thing around. Very sad. Even with the postseason failures, I still live for October baseball. There won’t be any of that in DC this year.

Oh stop complaining about nothing and focus on actual problems. We don't know what was said between Yelich & Rendon, such as:
a. maybe a joke
b. something they had discussed in the past
c. some lady showing her tits on the 3rd base side of the stands

By far the biggest problem on this team is mental. Lack of focus, lack of effort. This team is healthy, there aren't any more excuses. They simply fail to execute.

They're all richer than maybe everyone on this message board combined, they're young, healthy, loaded and famous. Winning the WS is just gravy and takes a lot of effort and focus, and they don't get paid to play in the post-season.

I figure most of them can't be bothered.

The only guy who ever wore a Nats uni that really wanted to win a WS retired a few months ago.

I don't put any emphasis on Rendon's happy face. I just don't think you can interpret it as not caring. It's just his game day face. A smile can mean a lot of things, or nothing at all. He smiles like that while he tells a reporter to take a hike. It's just a look.

Rendon isn't the problem. He's not my favorite player by a long shot, but he's not the reason the Nats are playing poorly.

True. He is a great player but where is the urgency from this team? Where is the intensity?

Our star players seem to lack it. And it shows in big games.

If we continue to middle around and look like a completely uninterested team for the next week, we absolutely have to trade pieces. Sitting with our dicks in our hands and an 81-81 season with 0 assets to show for it (even lower-level prospects) would be pathetic, but I fear is the most-likely scenario.

exactly, getting an attitude or making a determination about how much he cares based on smiles is plain dumb.
