Now he is with the Cardinals in the Piscotty deal.

I don't know if this is true but rumor has it Piscotty asked to be traded to the bay area to be closer to his dying mom (she passed away last week from lu Gehrig disease) and the cards accommodated him. if it is true it is a hell of a story

That’s absolutely what happened.

While it was genuinely a wonderful gesture for the Cards to honor Piscotty's trade request, that wasn't completely altruistic, as the Cards had been eyeing Ozuna for a while but their outfield was stacked, leaving no payroll or physical room for him. If Piscotty had been a pitcher or some other position where the Cards don't have a logjam, the trade terms might have been a lot different (or maybe never happened at all).

So good on the Cards for making the right moves  but it wasn't 100% from the milk of human kindness.

They say that in the article. But I think the idea is that they could have gotten more for him from another team.

Did the A’s pick up his full salary (yes I am too lazy to read the article)? If so, I don’t know how much more the Cards would have gotten just because $11M/year was going a long long way on outfielders last winter.

Can't wait to see Reynolds hit in the bandbox that is Camden Yards the next few days. Methinks a few more homers.

The two years he played in Baltimore he hit 37 and 23 home runs. The 37 is his second highest ever. Lets hope he can help beat the evil nine to the north.

I could see Dave using the excuse that he's riding the hot hand to keep Adams/Reynolds in games for a while, maybe use Zimm as a defensive sub. He has no history with Zimm.

I hope so but when do you recall any of our managers riding the hot hand?

When it's an excuse to keep him out of the game for six innings. I think he is probably a better fielder (on hot ground balls) than Adams. Not sure about Reynolds.  Just so long as he doesn't have to throw it.

Zimmerman is making $14 million.  He's not going to sit on the bench.  Also, before getting banged up, he had been hitting fairly decently.

We're paying Zimmerman a ton of money, he's the face of the franchise, and so on.  Yeah I get all that.  Still, I cannot see how they could possibly justify inserting him into the lineup right now.

Because he's making tons of money and is extremely popular with fans.  Zimmerman is going to start, regardless of what the small number of malcontents believe should happen.
