Hey TT,

Get Shoeshineboy to return. I really liked his analysis. Thought he was fair centered and balanced

Second.    He was one of my go to's for real baseball stuff.    Still have 'em (good baseball posters) here but SSB would be a nice read as well.

SSB checks in during baseball season and occasionally posts. Does not hit the non-baseball sections all that much.  If there's real news, then you may see him.  Last flurry of posts were around when Davi was hired.

.........   “I don't participate in game day threads, ever.  Just not my sort of think.” .......
Ray, are you admitting to being just another 5 o’clock hitter?..... and people wonder why we can’t get beyond the first round of the Playoffs. Geesh!
booooooooooooooooooooo Ray! Get in the game!!!  :mitt:

Think I saw something earlier in the year.    (Mindfact), after Minty kidnapped me from the MLB board in the aughts, SSB was the first real baseball poster I read here.     I liked his posts.    Hope he gets back in the flow this year.    I still like some of our current crop as well.    I don't normally get in the weeds but some of our posters could make a buck with their insight.

My wife and I have a fragile truce, she has my undivided attention six months of the year and the other six months I watch baseball nearly every night. And she watches many games with me (absolutely refuses to watch football) and I enjoy that.   If I were to sit there banging on the computer the whole game I suspect that would be deal breaker.

You’re doing the “right thing” Ray. I’m just teasing. You certainly don’t want to test your marriage as I have through the years.
When my wife tries to hold a conversation with me during a ballgame I often pretend i’m interested by repeating the same  three phases (“Oh really”,  “is that right”, and “oh wow”) over and over again  until she says, “what have I been talking about for the last ten minutes”???

Don’t be Scrapple.  :tomatoes:

I figure I'm not doing or paying any attention to anyone else anyway so I might as well be hanging out with my WNFF homies.

I'm really liking Mattionals stuff lately, and NJ Ave and Elvir always get the last word.  Dcpatti is way up there, too.  There's a few others, but I wanted to give those 4 an acknowledgement.

Oh, and of course Imref in the politics thread.

Hear! Hear!    However, I can't speak about Imref's ditties in the politics thread.    I don't go near that joint.    :)

Thanks.  One of the reasons I like it here is that there is a fairly large crowd of people who understand both numbers and how to actually play baseball.  It's not just statheads calling people dumb jocks and guys who played in HS 20 years ago (hi!) imagining everyone they disagree with as a pimple-faced nerd they'd like to stuff into a locker.

I really appreciate the folks who have already been mentioned. I am a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to baseball (Dad hates baseball so I found the game later in life, right after college, on my own) so I don't have near the depth of knowledge as some of you.

Off topic but possibly slightly related. In the knife community, online forums were the go to source for staying on top of maker's and their new listings and models. To the point where many makers had sub forums that they paid for to concentrate solely on their items. Over the past 2 years or so the community has noticed a massive drop off of makers that were maintaining their paid sub forums and going over to facebook groups instead.

While it may not be for everyone, what would y'all think about a WNFF FB group. I'm on FB much more than I am here.

Hell no.

Why would we split it up now?

I think there was one a couple of years ago but I don't think there was much interest, but maybe I'm mind-facting? I'm in a couple of other facebook nats groups but this one is really by far the best to me.

I'm less and less interested in having every click dumped into a massive database where it's not just sold to the highest bidder, but sold to any old bidder at all, and to my detriment.

Remember Gimmythegeek from the MLB board?  He warned us in 2005 about how this site - WNFF - was untrustworthy and that some nefarious owner was going to be using it to extract a pound of flesh our more out of us.  Yes, I have kicked in a couple of bucks  :money: a couple of times to keep the lights on, but Facebook is really that risk that Gimmy was trying to articulate.

Gimmy had health problems, did he drop off the MLB board or was he around to the end?

I belong to two. They suck. (Then again, Facebook sucks.) I'll pay more than my fair share to keep this group's infrastructure funded.

I don't do Facebook.    It's like Uncensored to me.   I don't know what's over there and don't wanna know.   I'm afraid it'd be a bad trip.    Over my life, I've wasted tens of thousands of dollars on booze, drugs, phoney girlfriends, fake concert tickets, lemon vehicles and any number of shady schemes/bad investments mankind has thought up.     By far, this is the best wasted money I've ever spent.

Easily the best left-handed compliment I believe I've ever heard...  ;)
