I think they make up an illness for Romero honestly. Gott has been good in ST and deserves a spot.
would you say, on the merits, Gott and Collins would be on the roster in place of Romero and Kelley?  I think Kintzler has earned a bit of a leash.

Probably. I mean, Kelley got shelled in his last outing, Collins gave up 2 runs. Collins has pitched 1.1 more innings than Kelley. Romero looks broken with a 2.67 WHIP, but it's concerning that Kelley only has 3 K's. I think the case is easy to be made for Romero being "hurt" where as Kelley is harder to do. Still, I think Collins is brought up before too long if Kelley struggles.

If Kelley doesn't regain form (and quickly), he might need to go for that elbow surgery after all, which might be an end to his tenure in a Nats uniform.

What was his injury again? I have to assume that being such a slider heavy pitcher that there is always the risk of TJ. I mean he has already had TJ twice, so it might as well be a third trip through.

Among other things, bone chips in the elbow. He went for stem cell treatments over the winter, as opposed to surgical removal (because after two TJ's, an elbow surgery may be a career ender).

The bone chips may be the anchor point becoming unstable.

Was talking to a Cards fan the other day who didn't know I was a Nats fan (this is important). Said he expected that their Ps would be much better due to their new pitching coach and that they were so happy to get rid of the previous bum.

Awesome.

If this team were put together strictly  on merit and talent and not who has options or who is owed guaranteed money or who is on scholarship  then Collins and Adams make the big club

Someone put a poll together for who will be the first cut in the 8 man Bullpen barring injury. My vote is split between Romero and Kelley

Kelly already serving up the long ball. This is not a good sign.

I only see three pitchers in that bullpen that I have any comfort with at all.

hotshot, where were you yesterday when everyone was rebutting my comment about having no confidence in the middle inning bullpen?  I had a feeling I wasn't the only person who feels that way.  As I said in the defunct message board, Kelley in now in full 2017 form.  The lower portion of his right arm is hanging by a thread.  He has NOT earned the right to spit out any gum onto the field.  And he hasn't earned a correct spelling of his name, either.  Is it $5M or $5.5M that is being flushed down the toilet?

That's three more than the start of last year

Nats sign Carlos Torres to a MiLB deal as righty bullpen depth.  His career is marked by a major good year/bad year pattern; last year with the Brewers he was pretty bad, so hopefully this is the "good" year.

Mr. Rizzo,

We have a problem. Grace screwed up in game two but redeemed himself in game three. Solis looked good in game two and not so much in game three. Doo was lucky today. Romero sucked as did Gott. And Kelley has not been seen yet and I bet Martinez has good cause.

I think he's worthless, but Trevor Gott out the only man he faced yesterday...

I have an inkling that Kelley is seeing the doctors right now, and that he will soon be going for elbow surgery. That will probably end his career unfortunately. He’s not healthy and the stem cell treatment he got over the winter didn’t have the long term effects they had hoped for.

A shame, because he seems like a really nice guy who is universally liked. Pitching is such a violent activity.

Tim Collins is a better option than Solis or Grace but is stuck behind no options left pitchers
