Mid-May through the end of June will be where we see if the Mets are for real or not. Up till now, they’ve played a bunch of games with the Braves and Phillies (tougher than last year but not powerhouses), us (wounded and kinda stinky right now), the Brewers (their toughest competition so far, I’d say) and the Marlins (self-explanatory). The Mets are doing what you’re supposed to do: feast on your weaker division rivals. Starting in mid-May they see much stronger competition. Whole lot of DBacks, Cubs, Rockies, and dodgers.
We will have finished all of our games against the DBacks before we get our first game with the Marlins.
You can’t attribute all of the Mets’ success to the luck of the schedule, but it’s definitely a factor. Hopefully by the time we see the Mets again (which is all The way out by the All Star break) we will have full strength roster back and closing that gap will be manageable.
