Baseball Trivia
« on: January 25, 2018, 03:49:16 pm »
Vlad Guerrero, just elected to the hall of fame, is one of only 10 players ever with 350+ career home runs and who's career hit total eclipses his career games played by more than 350.  Two are active, so they could, potentially, fall off that list.  Now that Vlad is in, all of the inactive players on that list are hall of famers.

Q1: Who are the two active players on the list?

Q2: Six of the eight inactive players on the list are Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Joe DiMaggio and Vlad Guerrero.  Who are the other two?

One has got to be Ichiro. Oh wait except for the home runs.

considering who asked the question Jim Rice has to be one of the two.

Musial should be the other one but I can't for the life of me think of even one of the active ones.

Votto and Pujols are my guess

scratch that, Votto doesn't have 350 HRs.  Miggy and Pujols

Pujols was maybe too obvious for me to think of.  :hammer: I would never have guessed Cabrera though.

I looked them both up and neither Miggy nor Pujols has enough more hits than games to meet the question.

Pujols has 393 more hits than games unless my reading comprehension is even worse than I feared (a distinct possibility)

I only see 4 active with more than 350 home runs: Pujols, Beltre, Cabrera and Ryan Howard.

This kind of stuff blows my mind.    I look forward to the answers.     It did pique my curiosity about Clemente though.     :)    Not sure why but I was surprised he only hit 240 home runs.

Bonds doesn't have more hits than games played in. Or perhaps I misunderstood the parameters of the question.

Q1 answers are Miggy and Pujols.  Chances are they may not continue to average more hits than games, so if they stick around too long they could slip off the list.

Q2 answers are Stan Musial and Jim Rice.

And yeah, of course I was gonna give a Jim Rice question.  Surprising how few players even have 100 more hits than games for their careers with good power to go along with it.  Even Bonds, Mays, Frank Robinson, Mantle, Griffey, etc. didn't qualify.

Between everyone, all of the correct answers were given.  Two players that came close were Orlando Cepeda and Alex Rodriguez.  A lot of 2,000+ hit guys with power had REAL similar hits and games totals.  Yaz, Winfield, Murray, etc.  Some had the exact same number of games as hits.  Texeira is the only one of those I remember off the top of my head.
