If a player on the playoff roster goes on the DL, he can take the spot if I remember the rules right.

A player has to be in the organization prior to September 1. That's it, no more phony injury stuff.

I saw him at the P-Nats this season, impressive. I can't wait to see him play. I don't think they are recalling him to sit on his hands...but this doesn't bode well for Bryce Harper's health. Ugh.

Correct-thanks for clarifying for the record.

He isn't the first prospect to jump Triple A. Stanton did.

My guess is it is just to get him some time with the major league coaches and players and a few at bats against major league players. Then he pops back down to Triple A in 2018.

They rewrote the rule to make it simple? Nice!

Back in the day, a lot of players went from AA straight to the Bigs.

I don’t think it has anything to do with Harper. If the Nats think he’s anywhere near ready, why not bring him up and see how he does in the bigs?

Victor Robles will be the first MLB player who was born after The Notorious B.I.G. died. Biggie died 3/9/97. Robles was born 5/19/97.

Bingo, I also think it helps in terms of organizational culture - this is what it's like to be in a pennant race, this is where we expect to be on the WASHINGTON NATIONALS - that sort of thing. Plus, other teams will be pitching a lot of September pitchers anyways. I'm not sure we'll play one series of consequence for the opposing team from here on out. They're not going to throw him out there again Kershaw every night.

Plus it keeps his development moving forward as he gets ready for the Arizona Fall League. Otherwise he'd get a month off with no live games and presumably no group workouts or scrimmages (since all of the minors are done for the regular season).

still wouldn't be surprised to see him this September, but if not, definitely in 2018.

Nats are so thin in out field right. The only guy who is a fringe out fielder that may lose valuable at bats is Wilmer Difo but he hasn't been in the outfield for a while. Bautista and Stevenson are solid prospects but Robles ranks way ahead of them.

I'd like to see him get a handful of starts.

Robles is going to Arizona, so there's no reason for him to take away any playing time from any of our post-season players.  Werth, Taylor and hopefully Harper need at bats, and we also want Kendrick and Difo to have playing time so they stay hot.

Arizona doesn’t start. for a month. Even if he doesn’t play at all, it’s valuable for him to work out with the team and be around major league atmosphere. Next time he comes up it will be all the more familiar. But I think he’ll get a few at bats.

Brian Goodwin had a setback with his injury, which is what prompted Nats to call on Robles, according to person familiar with situation.

This seems weird, Bautista and Stevenson came up today too. You only need so many outfielders. But if it's a cup of coffee for next year I guess it's fine.

Maybe...or maybe he shows that he can play and makes the post season roster ala Andruw Jones?

And that's really the point of expanded rosters. That's probably all this is about.
