bump-

Dusty Baker has been an incompetent hack at very stop along his managerial career.  Guy wins one pennant and he's considered a genius.  Couldn't manage a bullpen if he had Cincinnati's Nasty Boys, Rivera, Kimbrel and Gossage out there.

Now you all know how I personally feel about him.

Well, look at the tools he's given to work with.

The idiot posting that will be happy with this quote from sports radio 810 in Kansas City today, "Word around baseball that chances of Dusty Baker returning to Washington in 2018 are zero percent"

Seems to be the thoughts of some people that follow the game pretty closely, tremendous disconnect between the powers that be and Dusty. Was mentioned in a segment on midday show, leave it to the Lerners to screw this up.

I think Dusty would be a decent CEO-type leader of the dugout and team, with Rizzo handling the supply chain (player acquisition) and Speier or a good bench coach running the in game strategy.  Let Maddux run the pitching.  Dusty's main job should be keeping the player's heads straight, conflict resolution, handling the press so Rizzo and the others don't have to, and maybe season-long strategy (i.e., getting all the players at bats and innings etc...  ).

I also think there is almost no chance of Dusty being back.  I'm sure he doesn't like being a lame duck and being handed the bullpen mess.  I imagine he'd be back at at the right pay but Lerners won't do that.

Not sure what tremendous disconnect there would be.  His bullpen is crap, everyone can see that.  Still, they're blowing the doors off the division.

This seems to be the status quo?

I would say the disconnect would include the importance of not being a lame duck manager AND the fact the Lerners don't seem to care that he has a crappy bullpen.  Dusty has to be incredibly frustrated, and largely keeps a smile on his face.  I'm not a huge fan of Dusty, but I think he's doing a great job of keeping the team doing well under very trying circumstances.  His management of pitching workload scares me a lot though.

I took the quote to mean that Dusty not being here next year would be Dusty's choice.

Oh, ok, gotcha.  I would agree that Dusty's likely a bit frustrated.

Any speculation about his job status next season is completely worthless until we see what happens in the postseason.

I don't think Dusty will come back regardless of the results.  He'll have other better offers, or else he'll retire.

If Dusty was coming back the extension would have been completed, Nats as usual just do not get it. They will save a million a season next year with an untested guy that will not question anything Mike Rizzo does, depressing thought about a team that will have their franchise player in a walk year.

I love the Nats but this team makes me so angry. I love Dusty: I want him back.

You can't get upset over injuries but this closer situation makes me so darn angry (hence my protest the Learners thread).

Just makes you sick.

I hate this thread, yet I'm still posting in it.

Case and point, I don't care what anyone else has to say, Dusty has been the best manager the team has had since Frank, and he is probably better than Frank. I only blame Rizzo for a few players since he took over the helm (Papelbon, Espinosa, Treinen, and I'll even say H-Rod even though I supported it) and I think, for the most part, that Rizzo and Dusty are doing what is 85% right by this team, and very few other organizations can say that in my opinion.

My problem is with the Lerners not willing to add particular payroll here and there, or only giving up money for "highlight roll names". I lay the bullpen disaster on them, as Holland or Robertson would have already been on the team, maybe both, and we wouldn't have to watch the bullpen falter at every turn.

Just like when Bud Black was insulted by the offer? Look at how fast he was picked up

Drew is playing 2B tonight instead of Murphy. Unless Murphy's injured ( :hang: ), why rest the league's best hitter after four days off (or three out of four days off if you count the ASG) AND in a hitter-friendly park??? If you want to get Drew some ABs, put him in at SS.

Have to pay more to keep him in 2019 if he has a batting title and MVP under his belt...

Zuck saying Dusty wants to give the ASG guys extra rest, so Murphy is sitting. Likely Bryce and Zimm will be sitting a day soon too.  REALLY??????
