I agree that he should be given a managerial shot somewhere but maybe he should get off of TV and manage in minor leagues for at least a year first.

Knorr was still the bench coach this year?  Maybe can Sendley, put Knorr at 3d, and bring in Cora / DeRosa to sit next to Dusty just to say things like "you know, this might be the biggest out to get, why not throw Solis / next year's Melancon now?"  or "if you bunt here, they'll just take the bat out of Murphy's hands; DP would stink, but our hitter hits few groundballs."

Does Derosa want to get into coaching? Seems like he's got a pretty good gig at MLBN.

I think Knorr got some kind of front office adviser-type job. Chris Speier was the bench coach.

I thought he got an interview in the first round of interviews.

He did.

This talk is foolish. They aren't dumping Baker after one season, just like Rizzo didn't dump Williams or Johnson. Rizzo needs to build a Dusty proof bullpen. Fill it up with some true studs.

So the Nationals overachieve just about everyone's expectations this season and are a couple hits with RISP away from the NLCS, but now Mark DeRosa and Alex Cota would be better than Dusty because they were career grinders who gave good interviews and we're constantly called smart by announcers.

Eh, I think it has to do with how Dusty managed the post season. And that he is now 0-9 in his last 9 clinching games.

no, I said a bench coach who was on more modern, for lack of a better word, than Baker's old school.  As for Cora, he's pretty universally acknowledged as a future manager every where he played at the end of his career.  I saw him taking out some of the younger players at CCSP at the end of his season here.  He's tremendously respected.  DeRosa, I don't know.  UPenn doesn't prove much to me  but others say he's a sharp guy and on top of current baseball trends.  So, no, it isn't that they were "career grinders."  If you know these guys better than the beat writers and team mates, by all means question their reputations.

for much of the season, I've been saying that he's a terrific regular season manager, which is different than the way you manage in a must win situation.  That said, I don't blame him all that much for Game 5.  He didn't send Werth.  If any one of 6 pitchers did his job in the 7th, Rendon doesn't turn into Espinosa with runners on for the series, or Werth comes through yet another time in Game 5 like he did the rest of the series, we probably aren't having this discussion.

Agreed but his handling of scherzer, odd switches, and rushing of Kelly to the mound didn't help.

I've always said Dusty is a good regular season guy but a huge choker in the playoffs and I was proven right again because Dusty can't help but freak crap up. If Ted Lerner is happy with just making the playoffs, Dusty is a great choice. If he wants to win a title, then he should have hired someone else.

Playing Turner from July and not from the beginning of the season was a huge mistake. That one might be on Rizzo, but I remember Dusty saying he thought Turner had a weak arm which is a bogus excuse. And then playing Turner at CF was a bigger mistake. Dusty moved him back and forth and while Turner sucks at balls hit over his head, he should have had never moved to the infield if that was the plan. Turner clearly needed more experience playing in the outfield and didn't get it. That's on Dusty.

Several pitchers such as Ross, Rivero, and Solis got used a lot then ended up on the DL. Dusty didn't drive some into the ground with extreme overuse, but he did overuse guys at times and some got hurt because of it. I would have liked max to throw one less inning here and there when games where in hand. It looked like he wore down the stretch.

I can't wait for the Dusty era to end. I am not happy with a manager that is a bad playoff manager. I know Dusty wanted to stagger his lineup, but was Werth really a legit 3rd batter? And Harper batting 2nd? Dusty was very slow in the regular season to move guys up and down the order then the playoffs rolls around and makes wholesale dumb choices.

Nats fans deserve better than this. It's too bad that Ted Lerner has shown a preference for over the hill managers who don't command big salaries because he doesn't value a good manager. The Lerner/Tannenbaum families need to be more hands off and let the baseball people do their jobs and stop being cheap when it comes to the nats. There's people in the organization that complain about how cheap they are and it reminds me of how the cleveland browns are.

Yeah, he's got a former MVP who's a moron bailing out on every pitch, a couple of broken down bodies in left and 1B, no-hit catchers now that Wilson's gone, a whiffer at SS, a choker at third, which leaves him with two guys who can actually swing the bat and hit the ball, Turner and Murphy.  Get him some bats, Rizzo.

Worth a shot, plus Sendley should've been fired the second he waved Werth home for certain death at the plate  >:(

Hopefully we don't have to worry what kind of hitter Espi is anymore :)
